| I would but I don't have anything to run it on. Maybe if WinUAE supports the OS changes or some equivelent. _________________ It's not the question that's the problem, it's the problem that's the question.

| A definite must-have here. I won't be using it to actually power my meade, as I have a laptop to do that, but now I'll be able to use my A1 to plan my viewing sessions.

| I've been using it a bit now, though learning to use it is a better description of my user level. I'm impressed. Not even a hint of any problems so far and the docs are interesting reading in themselves.
Thankyou Bill |

Just as well - as telescope control is not planned until v2.5, though I guess some Arexx scripting may do the job already.
Anyway, would you really want to take your nice Amiga One outside risking damaging it, a laptop is replaceable

When I wrote that there was no classic hardware cable of running OS4. There were only A1s.
However, you missed the bit of text below that
" The Digital Universe will probably run comfortably on any system capable of running Amiga OS4. Even an OS4 equipped "Classic" Amiga with older PPC accelerator should be able to run the software"
There is no reason why DU could not run on a classic with PPC. Anything that can run PPC native OS4 code will run DU OS4. You cannot use Amiga native screenmodes, the minimum is 800x600 at 16bit, so you WILL need to have a graphics card installed.
What sort of speed do the classic accellerators run at, it is so long since I had an A1299 and Blizzard ?
Obviously the performance of classic/PPC card will not match an Amiga One but it should still be a big improvement on the 68k 1.03 version of DU.

| Digital Universe 1.03 runs perfectly well on 68k hardware and no doubt emulators too. It has been available for many years now so anyone wanting to run DU on 68k can do so probably quite cheaply now.
Dan seems to have removed the old stuff from his website but if there is interest in the older software I can persuade him to put it back.
Probably be a fiver or something like that now the new version is out.
BTW. The reason I got involved was that DU 1.03 did not run too well under OS4 ! The original intent was just a recompile of the old software, but by the time I had learned enough C, I wanted to add a boit more too.
The older software still runs well on 68k, you will just miss out on a few new feaures and enhancements that's all.

Thanks, but I must say that most of the credit reaaly belongs to Dan Charrois of Syzygy.
He wrote the original DU package for the Amiga many years ago and it was way ahead of its time.
I am just a bit like that guy in the razor blade ads and was so impressed I decided to join the company and bulldozed my way in as it was something worth doing.
I may have updated it a bit and added a few features that never made it to the Amiga version before but Dan is the one who really did all the really clever stuff. All I did was bring it back home
I am the one pushing DU at the moment and keeping it alive on the Amiga. I do it not for the profit nor the kudos but for totally selfish reason I wanted a good astronomy package on the computer I choose to use.

| WHile I don't have any personal use for the software, this is a very cool story. Check out the link to http://www.syz.com/DU and have a read.

My thoughts exactly. In fact, I have to be quite jealous and protective about my A1. I'm doing some development, and if it bites the dust, I'm in a world of hurt.

| @BillE,
Nice update. Thank you. I have been using it for a few days now on my Micro. As a planetary gazer I especially like having the ecliptic. A lot snappier under OS4 than the 1.03 version was under 68k. |
