Events   Events : NEW! AmiWest 2008 blog!

AmiWest Blog at amigaprez.wordpress.com

For AmiWest 2008, the information announcements are being posted on a new blog at amigaprez.wordpress.com. Wordpress was chosen because it is accessible using Amiga's iBrowse and because it is very easy to use and access from just about any browser. Using a blog also eliminates sending individual email messages.

Stopping individual emails means a lot of people will not show up because they didn't know it was happening.

Well if they get Carl Sassenrath, then I'll go.

You don't have a mailing list?

I avoid blogs like the plague. If many are like me you'll have a lot of uninformed individuals out there.

Same here, I don't like blogs. So I'll be uninformed.

Um, maybe Wordpress isn't the best choice... it's a nominee for this year's Pwnie awards in the Mass 0wnage category for "unbelievable number of vulnerabilities".

@CodeSmith

Oh-oh!

I think it is best for them to keep doing as they have in the past with posting the AmiWest news on the various Amiga sites. Plus start up a mailing list for anyone interested enough to want to be on it. Give instructions at the bottom on how to remove yourself from the mailing list. I am one of those who would want to be on the AmiWest mailing list. I am amazed that they have been sending separate emails to each person.

I am going to try my best to get down to Sacramento this year for AmiWest. I hope fuel prices drop some. I guess the most green way to travel would be the train, but I'd have to drive 170 miles to either Seattle or Portland to board it.

The bus is available locally, but forget that! I've made my last bus trip.

We have a small air terminal here with Delta and Horizon available. Although Delta is pulling out in August because of high fuel prices. I'll have to check to see if Horizon flies straight to Sacramento from here. I would not want to have to go to Seattle or Portland to make connections for such a short trip.

@moxie
Last year there was a few folks making the long journey from WA down to CA by car. Maybe share the journey to save on gas costs?

SACC could setup an Amiwest car sharing forum on here maybe?

I think the blog is a good idea.

But I would also recommend (as have others here) still sending out a monthly reminder email to the list and maintaining a website as has been done in years past. With any event the more advertising the better!

I found this site: eRideshare

I'm sure there are other which could be used to help facilitate ride sharing.

Another thing about Amiwest'08, OS4.1 will be there!

Hopefully I will be using OS4.1 by mid 3Q-2008 (mid-August). But yeah, I hope it is being shown there. I just want to go to shake a few hands and hope the all night party is not next door to my room again. Last time it sounded like they were throwing bodies against the wall. I should have gone over to find out.

After observing your posts for quite some time now I'm really starting to wonder if you are for real or not. Your aversion to using spell check is unequaled. The thought of Amiga, Inc. demonstrating OS 4.1, Hyperion's new product is simply outlandish given the court case. And the likelihood, no matter anyone's opinion of Amiga, Inc either way, that they would show in person to any Amiga event is miniscule at best. There are a lot of people in the community with tough questions for them and even if AA2 or OS5 was something awesome to behold they'd be foolish to show it at an event where they may need to deal with hecklers and such low attendance. Why do you think they demonstrated AA2 at a small press only event?

Perhaps a Yahoo! Group could fulfill the needs of both announcements via email and a place to post info?

Sure would be nice to see MOS2 & AROS in action at the show. Most ppl that come are still classic users. We bring & show A1s running OS4, but the other active alternatives are either boycotting the show or are afraid to show.

There is no OS preference for this show, it's a chance to show others whats available, including PC options. If you have a EFICA running MOS or a SAM running AROS, bring it & show others what can be had, other then OS4.

I'm an OS4 fan, but I'd love to see what else is out there & so would others. If anyone has any concerns or fears about attending Amiwest, post here & get it off your chest. It would be nice to get it back to including all Amiga systems.

If it were AmiEast I'd be all for trying to make it. Cali is just too far I'm afraid.

@fairlanefastback

I can understand why those on the East coast can't make it, but there are some local users that could come if they wanted. There was a time when Peg/MOS users showed, not sure why they stopped coming, but the show doesn't cater to any one system/OS as far as I know. If it did at one time, it doesn't anymore.
