Internet News   Internet News : AmigaOne pre-review and KAQ online
   posted by Kay on 4-May-2003 23:17:05 (3427 reads)
There is now a short review and an AmigaOne KAQ (Kay's Answered Questions) available at my website. The KAQ is intended to help other Linux novices like myself who are getting an AmigaOne. Contributions are welcome.

Hey, Nice review Kay.

Should be particularly helpful to people like me...ie: haven't even seen Linux before.. let alone used it.

Hey there

you may want to consider a name change

KAQ sounds a lot like cack, which is used as a rather negative descriptive word, as in 'that's a piece of cack'

Glad your enjoying you AmigaOne though

cheers

Now I want my AmigaOne-XE also!

I wonder when they get in the Netherlands?

Hey Fleecy,

Just my thoughts, in flemish it sounds like cr** or sh**.
I think, "Kay's QA" would sound better.

De groetjes, Dirk.

Yeah thanx Kay, this is going to be really helpful!

Maybe we should start an on-line A1 user group - or is there already one of those in existence?

Hopefully my A1 will be with me shortly

Rude!

Well, there are several AmigaOne lists.

I run one, it's cald A1Users list, it is a normal
user list. If you want to use it, just tell me.
It is a list from users for users, so it is not
importent who's running it. You can find it
at my site. (see below at the www buton)

De groetjes, Dirk.

@fleecy, Dirk-B:

And I suppose you guys think "FAQ" sounds better?

@all:

Thanks for the feedback, guys! I have already gotten a few more tips, which I might add tonight.

Well, I rather though of "KAK", which is, of course, a virus for the PC.

Ah, now you see I'm pure of thought and would never have for an instant realised the other meanings mentioned above.

The faq is good Kay, will keep an eye on it for further updates.

@Kay
"2x512MB Registered SDRAM"

Are those Kingston KVR133X72RC3/512 sticks?
If yes, what type of chips are on those sticks?
Are they Infineon chips?

Good effort, Kay. just a thought about the background colour- BLACK can be a highly contrasting colour for backgrounds.

It is possible to (through JavaScript) to make the BG Colour VISITOR-Selectable, or possibly even shift the Intensity Grey-wards.

I'm thinking that aspects such as choise of RAM are very important for A1 Builders, and recommend that you contact Doug at AnythingAmiga as he seems to have had the BEST results at sourcing RAM for his customers.

What I'm meaning is that a 'What Works Best' guide could be a good resource for A1 Builders to turn to.

Bye

@ssolie:

No, Crucial. I don't know exactly what chips are on them. At time of buying I was focusing on getting as much Reg SDRAM as possible for as little money as possible, before prices went up. I paid 1400NOK for both, including P&P.

@vortexau:

I really don't have much spare time these days, so I don't think I will be experimenting with Javascript right now. The reason it is white on black is basically to keep it consistent with the rest of my site. As for the reason I chose that color scheme in the first place, I think I just wanted something other than standard black-on-white, without making it completely unreadable. It looks okay on a Trinitron, anyway.

@Kay
Thanks for the info!

I'm currently in a battle with my AmigaOne and the recommended Kingston 512MB SDRAM sticks. I'm collecting as much data as possible to try and nail this one down which is why I asked.

Good review by the way. I'm sure your tips will come in handy. I hope to do a similar page as soon as I have my system working properly.

Bring back KAQ no matter how bad it sounds...
