hardware OS4   hardware OS4 : Cubic Xmas Special
   posted by dietmar on 8-Dec-2008 1:38:25 (2784 reads)

As is tradition, Cubic can be acquired at a drastically reduced price for a few dark days before Christmas - take advantage of it while stock lasts and get your complete package for HTML editing and software development (AmigaOS, MorphOS).

With Cubic, you can edit and check HTML documents, write and compile software, localize programs, edit Hollywood multimedia scripts, create installations, write AmigaGuide documentation and even play a round of minesweeper in Cubic's editor GoldED while a compiler builds your program.

- Specially designed Color Edition: The first customers will receive a specially designed, laser-burned color disk and not the regular glossy-white disk (while stock lasts).

Hello Dietmar!

It is surely a very great offer. Cubic IDE is a very comprehesive tool which I use daily (especially Golded currently).

However your constant price changing policy makes me disappointed every time. There was no upgrade path from previous versions (GED) and the fact that I should pay full price for the latest version held me back from upgrading.
There was a similar christmas special sale last year, but I missed it because the short time frame.
Finally I was happy with the 20 euo discount that you offered two weeks ago to the Hollywood mailing list members when I ordered Cubic IDE. It seemed such a geneous offer, however after this news item which means a total 45 euro discount it is not seems generous anymore.

I do not say that any price is high for your highly appreciated work on Cubic IDE, but the customer can easily feels to be cheated when the price of a software which represents constant value changes so frequently in so wide range.

Please don't get me wrong, I am very happy with your software and wish you the best on continued development, but it is an unfairly good christmas offer that shouldn't miss anyone and I am sad only because I missed it already!

Bye!

@Lazi

I understand your feelings here. Such a thing has a potential to annoy, yes, but hey, that happens all the time in reality! It's hard to blame supermarket that day after you purchased a bread, the price dropped. What if it raised?

Right. It's just like in market places. When the cameras are there, bread's price is the lowest and when cameras leave, they change the price to the highest possible.

If my SAM440 arrives this week and I can get the demo to install all right under OS4.1 then I will place my order at the weekend, but I dont want to purchase Cubic until I have tested that it works OK as OS4 is listed as not officially supported on the website.

@lazi

there was an update path but only from the most recent version (for example IIRC I registered GoldED studio 7 and I updated up to latest CubicIDE).

@Dwyloc

I am using OS4.1 on an A1XE and CubicIDE works fine, however I heard that at some point there was a problem with installing from the CD that force you to copy CD on the HD prior to launching the installation (don't know if Dietmar fixed this).

That's a good idea. You shouldn't have problems to install the current package under 4.1 though. Note that the demo may not be available for downloading at the end of the week (if the site runs out of bandwidth again).

@alalaban:

I'm not aware of such an issue. One user reported that having the temporary directory t: in ram: was a problem (do not remember whether with SAM440 or EFIKA). It might be necessary to assign t: to a disk-based path.

@lazi:
I've tried to cut back on special price sales because they undermine the regular price. For the first time, there was no reduced-price sale in the summer. Utimately, however, sellers need such promotions every once in a while to reach users who would never buy at the regular price.

As to the Hollywood mailing list offer: it was unplanned (requested) and not designed for advertising nor available to the public. Just a little token of support from my side, not a regular "big discount day".

Well after deciding to down load the demo last night so I would have it available to test on my SAM440 when I get it, I decided to give the demo a try under WinUAE last night and I have to say I am very impressed.

I don't think its going to replace CygnusED5 as my editor of choice to make quick changes to text files like s:User-startup, but it did work very nicely for making some quick edits to a draft of a new page for my website.

CubicIDE looks like a real alternative to my Windows text editor of choice UltraEdit which I used to create all the webpages for my boat refurbishment project I have been working on this year with some of my friends (http://www.darksilence.net/leisure22/).

I am not going to stop using Windows XP and UltraEdit, but CubicIDE dose mean that I can easily make changes and update my website from my Amiga or SAM440 when I get it without first connecting to a Windows computer with rdesktop to use UltraEdit.

So I have just gone ahead and ordered it just now as if I wait until I get my SAM440 and have it up and running I may not get CubicIDE until after Christmas.

If I have problems with the installer under OS4.1 I guess I can always install under WinUAE or E-UAE and then copy the install over to my OS4.1 install.
