Looks like for now author of review likes os4 more. And in general i agree with him, update1 have many nice iprovements (as well as little ones, and as well as big ones). For example so not so important (for first look) click2front, now runs by default - and that is very good. In general, i think that this click2front commodity can be erased at all, and integrated fully to os4. As well as commodities which deeply and heavy used by system already (and without which, system just will works bad), i mean: AsyncWB, DefIcons and RAWBinfo.

And some comments on osnews.com are in the right way: no need to looped on the past. Adding of new features without fear are good idea :)

Just need normally integrate E-UAE for os4 itself on the os4-team-core-developer level, just as it done for all the other oses which trying to support old software: like macos with their old 68k support, like win95 with dos support, and so on.

The only way for os4 , its try to growing up and mature well to the modern OS, which mean memory protection, smp support and resource tracking in any case. And i see there no problems with having inside the os4 support for 68k executables still (just out-of-box integration of e-uae or rewriting of petunia/jit or whatever). Only some current OS4 programms will not works in that case, but i think its can be solved too.

Nice, albeit short one.
I believe that some further mention to what went on under the hood to allow improvements/new features in existing software and the coming of previously impossible ones (such as Blender) was in order.
Positivity was there though, which is a big plus.

I don't think it's OS4.1 getting more mainstream interms of features, I think it's the reviewer getting use to them, give it 6 more months and he'll be saying that the way Windows 8 and OSX'.7 'Big Tabby' are doing it wrong and how the Amiga is the only one doing the desktop paradim (or something) right.

It happened to me, it'll happen to Thom!

It is nice to see that when the Amiga is mentioned on non-Amiga specific sites these days that it is generally shrouded with positivity. It was not long ago that quite the opposite was true.

@graffias79

This is my experience to. Almost every site i visited,that had the Amigaone x1000 in the news section,had 90% positive feedback from other visitors.

Interesting

Why is it that practically no other OS news type site is relaying news over Amiga OS as much as OS NEWS does?

IS it just that the others are more biased towards niche markets?

I wouldn't count on that remaining the case. The trolls may just be late to the party. There will be trolls no matter what happens. It is clearly way too early to comment on the latest developments without a spec and a price, so we can hardly have negative press. All the trolls have got to go on is either speculation or the troubled Amiga history, which is all too easy to pick on. Let's hope the positivity continues going forward and that the platform isn't punished for the mistakes of the past.

@BigBentheAussie

Might be. But in all the years i have followed the Amiga case,i can't remember the last time they had so much positive attitude towards Amiga,like now. I started seeing a small change a year ago,whenever Amiga was mentioned. I know Amiga is a easy target to pick on,and thats sad,and i really hope that someday we can prove them wrong. Even i is somewhat sceptical today,considering the rocky path with all those broken promises. Not to mention those fake announcements from Troika,and ACK(not that i never belived them) It's a lot of fuel for a troll.

It's good to see a generally positive review of anything Amiga. Many reviews of the last few years have had a sneering sarcastic "what a bunch of idiots Amiga users are" type of tone.

However, I am a little disappointed that the main thrust of the author's comments is making AmigaOS more like existing OSes. For example, he harps on about the click-to-front. I hate click to front. Sure, double-click or triple-click or shift-click to front is handy to save finding the depth widget (and Amiga has had that for years), but the Windoze system of not allowing a background window to be controlled is downright annoying and counter-productive. And for no better reason than "it's like Windows", everyone has copied it.

If I wanted a clone of Windows, I'd use Windows. I try Unbuntu or MacOS or Amiga to find something different!
