Events   Events : Frieden brothers to attend AmiWest 2010
posted by ssolie on 1-Oct-2010 4:10:05 (3216 reads)
We just got word today that Thomas and Hans-Joerg Frieden will be attending AmiWest 2010 with a working X1000 in tow. We'll all get to see this new Amiga computer for its first-ever showing in the United States at AmiWest!

The Frieden brothers have been working diligently to produce Amiga OS4 for Hyperion for many years now. They have organized the international team of developers and beta-testers to bring OS4.x to the rest of us. Now, those of us who have never met them will be able to meet them personally. As one of those people, I will be able to personally thank them for being the catalyst for continuing to bring the Amiga to those who have yet to hear about it and use it.

I believe that many of you would like to meet them, too. Come to meet them at AmiWest 2010! Come see the latest in Amiga hardware (such as the X1000) and software October 22-24, 2010 at the new Holiday Inn Express, 2224 Auburn Blvd., Sacramento, CA 95821. 916.923.1100. And watch this blog for breaking news of AmiWest 2010 as it happens!

Isn't this the machine that was announced way back in January?
It's now October and is still at the prototype stage...?
Why do they still announce vapourware months or years before anything will be actually released? It gives our community an unprofessional image.

So it would be more professional just to go around promoting things that don't yet exist and might never be available. Yeah, this worked really well with eg. the Walker, the A/Box, the Amiga MMC, the t-shirts, Amino's "OS5", the AAA chipset, etc...Forgive us for having a certain amount of scepticism eh...

Just curious, and forgive my ignorance in case this has been answered somewhere else in AW.NET already, but was there a new ETA given for the AmigaOne X1000 system when they announced that they would not make the originally announced ETA of Summer 2010? Thanks!

Update: Forget my question. I just found the answer on the AmigaOne X1000 link above to A-EON's site: Coming in late 2010. I hope that that is still the case.

@elatour

Last I heard, the beta boards would be ready around the end of this year. So if beta testing starts then & lasts for 3 months or more, your looking at a public release in 2011 sometime. We won't really know until the beta details are known. Nobody likes the waiting game, but its better to get things right, even if it means we have to wait longer.

Unlike many of the others (MMC, Walker) you mentioned the X1000 does actually exist, I've seen two for myself and, yes, it was running the OS.

P.S.

The t-shirts did exist (eventually).
I don't think AAA was ever really 'promoted', it was an internal project killed off by the demise of Commodore.

It does - and you would think that with everything that has happened people would learn not to announce release dates until certain. Actually this was on of the few things that CBM were very good at. They went too far the other way though and announced nothing until actual release.

Yes it's unprofessional - but it has happened and after being assured that it would be out in the Summer - it now looks like a 2011 release to me. And as has been pointed out earlier in the thread the missed release date was mentioned in a A-Eon FAQ

But they have announced nothing further which is a good thing. Hopefully we hear nothing until certainty and the finish line is in sight.

Not at all. It's a fair point.

It's when it gets blown out of proportion that it gives us a bad image.
