hardware OS4   hardware OS4 : UBoot 1.3.1e for Sam440ep-flex available
posted by elwood on 1-Aug-2012 9:38:16 (3886 reads)
Bassano del Grappa, Italy - 27, July 2012

ACube Systems is pleased to announce a new release of the U-Boot firmware for its motherboard Sam440ep-flex.

What's new in this version:

- added support for VIA VT6421 IDE/SATA controller on Sam440ep-flex boards.
Currently only the IDE port is supported.

The updated installation guide describes in detail the usual installation method (ISO image) and alternative methods (TFTP).

You can download installation archives on the Sam440ep-flex page

Additional information:

Please note: UBoot and UBoot updater make use of GPL code and thus are both published under GPL.

The sources can be downloaded from here.

@Hypex

Looks like a Hardware manufactures initiative,
Like the SAm460ex Sound and onboards SATA.

I wouldn't update just for the sake of updating. Unless you actually have a VT6421 SATA/PATA card you won't gain much from this.

Well if it's a firmware only support card then that means it's there for Linux.

Until an OS4 driver is written.

Good news for the sam440ep-flex owners, but will us sam440ep (mini-itx) owners be getting the same UBoot update for our boards as well?

Any progress is good, congrats.
Hope there will be Uboot 2, is there a clear SAM 440 / SAM 460 / X1000 / A1s Uboot manual?

Won't be any U-Boot 2, as U-Boot stopped using version numbers back in 2008.

The current release is v2012.07. Next release will be v2012.10

Anyway, I'm not sure anything has been added except for support for more processors and boards. I should know, as I've ported a 2009 release to a board I made and now I'm forking off another product from the same basic design. I just DON'T know. Been sifting through commit logs now, can't find anything useful.

Sad thing it will never reach some better GUI form.
Is there a clear manual on Uboot?

Some of it is Linux centric, but it documents every command in UBoot, at least the upstream version.
