Hardware News   Hardware News : AresOne m1000 available now
   posted by phoenixkonsole on 21-Jan-2013 18:34:27 (5325 reads)
Had some internet problems today... so the uploading of some videos showing the performance will follow next weekend. Same is true for an optimized Broadway version.

www.ares-shop.de

Small but powerful enough for surfing (incl. HTML5) and retro gaming ... Ares Ares mini complements the available systems.

Read more --->

Thanks to its mini-ITX case it takes extremely little space and, thanks to AMD APU technology yet it offers adequate to very good performance.

The base system comes with an AMD C60 dual core. This circumstance makes the Ares mini a very efficient partner for Retro computing and High definition video (playback).

Like the original AresOne even the small one is designed for AROS. * Each AROS distribution, can be used. By default, if no wishes expressed, AEROS and Broadway (native) will be installed in the latest shape. AEROS is based (evolution wise) of Debian 6.06 which uses AROS as desktop-environment and integrates Wine .... long story short: you can access Linux / AROS, AmigaOS, and Windows software.

Important: Under native AROS are only VESA modes supported. *The board has a PCIe slot so a card can be added for 3D support.
Feel free to ask.

The base system is composed of:
- C60 1GHZ dual core (raises under load up to 1.33GHZ)
- 250GB HD
- 2GB DDR3 RAM (supports up to 8GB)
- DVD-Burner
- Onboard GPU / LAN / Audio / DVI / VGA
- 6xUSB2
- Case with power supply
- AMC, A-Live X and the new Game G.E.M.Z

Performance videos and a new optimized Broadway Version follow next weekend.

1Ghz! WOW!

(WOW in a very neutral way:
-some nay sayers do not consider below 2.5ghz system usable on desktop (perhaps x86 is an exeption)
-1Ghz really is enough for a lot of desktop needs when the OS is sane and applications are optimized for it
-IMO, 200 eur PPC based box would be my target/dream as low end Amiga (RadeonHD included), parts exist, just need someone to bring it available )

Well with his dual 1,33 turbo mode and the internal HD6350 it play games like Dirt2 and Batman fluidly with FSAA.. well only in 640x480 respectively 800x600 but those are the resoultion later games on PS3 run too.

So it gives enough Bang for the money. Plus it has out of order execution which makes it faster than any 1st gen ATOM with1.6GHZ.

1GHZ today is not 1GHZ from 2005 : )

One thing about the price.
Minus money for GEMZ , Alive and AMC it comes cheaper.. + Vesalia my reduce the price. But this is what i need to motivate my little fingers.

Interested to know if it can outperform the 1.6ghz dual core atoms I used by being a more competent chip, or the iMica silent with single core atom 1.6, which were deemed to slow for Aros but were actually pretty nippy.

Get a pc from the local store or cheaper online.. What does this do in an AmigaSite as everyone has a pc allready or not in the action if not?
One, "1000" and others are so copied that makes me puke;)

Sorry about the non Amiga stuff, try to get money elsewhere or make an Amiga, everybody over here knows how to build a pc?

My 2 cents of rant.

Edit: 1GHz is really a joke no?

A system running "AROS" is Amiga for me. At least as much as those using other exotic processors. Systems like this with Innovations like "AEROS" at least offer the chance to regain some attention again.

@PR
believe it or not:
The One in AresOne (i use this name since 2009) derived from ArmigaOne. Which derived from AmigaOne... so yes "shame on me". But actually

But the M1000 is put together from M=mini and 1000=1000MHZ

So the Ares M1800 has? Yep 1800MHZ
P is used for portable.
So a Notebook with 1000MHZ becomes the P1000 ... easy scheme.

Since the system can run AROS and it just another Ares AROS system it should be ok to post here.

Sure you can build your own system. And hell yes you can get more for the price... see AresOne 2012. But small and silent is expensive. And especially prepared "by myself" is even more expensive.

See it as option. Don't get on a rant. I respect every system and bought PPC systems too and i planed to support AmigaOS in the future too as happened in the past.

@Clusteruk
I am actually doing a "how to" for installing windows, AROS and AEROS side by side with the Ares Mini. In the same way i intend to show some apps and games.
If you have any wish for sort of benchmark just tell.

On AROS it struggles with high video bitrates (in vesa mode). Didn't check Noveau yet.
On AEROS it flies. OpenCL comes handy.

I'm a fan of small factors (i've never upgraded my mini-itx SAM for that exact reason) I like this case with the red stripe i think it's way better than the bigger Ares...

Regardless of the fact that we all know how to build our own PC's now a days seeing as there is no longer a bunch of jumpers and confusing math involved...

...I still see this as an interesting product. For one thing, AROS users will be sure to get a board with a chipset that is fully supported as opposed to buying a board off Ebay or something only to later find that AROS runs a bit flaky on it because it does not fully support this chip or that.

I have never purchased anything off you, but some day I may buy into one of these little mini systems for AROS, the idea is rather appealing and so long as it has the speed to handle later 90's DosBOX titles, Odamex, and the enhanced Quake engines that have been ported to AROS, then I'm happy! AROS may not be Amiga, but it ain't all bad an environment to game within either. No Windows, no OS X. I'm a happy camper. ;)

I like the case, the price and the specs in general. Only thing to complain about : it says "designed for AROS", but the built-in GPU only supports VESA if running AROS native.
To me "designed for AROS" should mean "designed for native AROS" and that would imply accelerated graphics.

Yes, I know I can plug in another graphics card, but then it's not really what it should have been: an all in one fire-and-forget AROS machine.

I'm not really an AROS guru, but isn't there an adequate motherboard with similar specs and a fullay supported onboard GPU around? And if so, why didn't you choose that one?

@daytona
; ) because this board doesn't exist.
I like AMD, and ATI isn't supported but you find it on every µ or mini itx board.

Well, then I find nothing to complain about this m1000 (and certainly nothing to complain about its name neither )
