software OS4   software OS4 : AbiWord 2.8.6r2 for AmiCygnix released
   posted by CygnusEd on 17-Mar-2013 10:02:52 (3204 reads)
A revised version of AbiWord 2.8.6 is now available on OS4-Depot.
AbiWord is a wordprocessor, which supports a wide range of file formats.

New in this release:
  • Keyboard layouts that do not conform to ISO-8859-1 standard (eg Polish or Greek keyboards) are now better supported.
  • Dead keys are also supported now. For this the program uses the definitions in the keymap files in "KEYMAPS:".
  • "AbiWord" can now import pictures in SVG and XCF (Gimp) format.

  • All program packages released since AmiCygnix 1.2 will be revised and published without a news message.

    Thanks as well, now a question, does the screen size/depth affect amicygnix's speed?

    I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

    If you open a server window on a 32 bit workbench screen, the speed is remarkable slower compared to a 16 bit workbench screen. A bigger size can also cause a little slowdown, but this should not be very much.

    @all
    The latest release of Gnumeric contained a buggy installer script. A new release will follow soon. Sorry for this.

    Thank you very much, gives us more quality software available to use on the Amiga, although not OS4 native is very useful to have available to use, much appreciated

    Is there any likelihood that Abiword could be ported over to MorphOS, or even 68k?

    I feel sure, many of us, would like to have a better document reader/editor than currently available that can read a variety of image, and document formats that are just not supported in many of the legacy software for the 68k machines.

    There isn't a plethora of newer such programs even on MorphOS that work as well as Abiword does, as I've used it on my MiniMac system, which also has MorphOS on it, but I just can't use Abiword as yet on MorphOS.

    I feel banjaxed at the moment with this limitation on MorphOS.

    @Klowna

    It was said many times by MorphOS developers (eg. Fab, see post 36, post 42, post 33) that solution like AmiCygnix realy isn´t good thing for MorphOS.

    However, miracles do happen.
