| Although AmigaWorld.net is run by volonteers and although the people behind the site can hardly be accused of making a fortune out of it, it's still hard to not notice the lack of ambition. AmigaWorld.net does look exactly the same as it did one year ago, three years ago and probably also five years ago. The underlying code is filled with blatent violations to the HTML- and CSS-standards set by W3C (99 errors and 141 warnings), and the lack of support for mobile devices is evident the second you browse the site on a cell phone or a tablet. That being said, anyone who wants a Facebook, Google+, Pinterest or Twitter-button on AmigaWorld.net may have to wait. The list of bug fixes and feature requests is getting pretty long by now. _________________ That'll Put Marzipan In Your Pie Plate, Bingo 💻 Pro-Amiga, 🌍 Pro-Globalism, 🍅 Pro-Vegan, 🛦 Pro-NATO & 🇪🇺 Pro-Joint EU Defense Intervention Initiative

Actually for the longest time it never even covered server fees, so yes...losing money probably does make profit margin low. Heh.

Well, yes, that's a direct tie to how things are going in the Amiga community. As more and more users vanish, ambition is difficult to revive, imo.
But besides that, Steve mentioned browser compatibility, so much like AmigaOS switiching to X86, the site decision seems to be partially measured by what they feel they might lose through change. In this case - CMS migration.

We see eye to eye on that! If I was still a pre-teen or teenager I'd probably be interested in those social media sites. As old as I am though I view them all as silly.
I do not mean to knock this effort for I see it as constructive for our cause. It is just that those sites hold absolutely no interest for this person. I'd rather go out and take a walk to get some fresh air than to be Face-booking.

I don't use Facebook either.
You are right that it is constructive for our cause. I have had many new contacts thanks to the Facebook effort. Facebook has a few users (just a billion or so) and a lot of them remember what AmigaOS/Workbench is. Many of them have moved up the ranks and are running companies as well now. Good people to talk to...
I suppose one could just ignore Facebook and post around on Amiga forums in a desperate attempt to "steal" users from one camp to another. Such a strategy seems rather flawed at the core to me which is why I'm glad to have forward looking volunteers like Richard Lake on the team. _________________ ExecSG Team Lead

| Slightly off topic, but Google+ on AmigaOS?
Every time I go to a G+ page I am logged off automatically in about five seconds.
I would LOVE to know how to get around that problem.
It has got worse since Google started pushing G+ pages as results for web searches. If I can't find a workaround soon, I might have to bing.. (Oh Noo) _________________ question=(2b||!(2b))

| Your not alone Lyle. I like the G+ page but only when i visit from windows or android. Before we got the problem with logged off we couldnt upload images. Now its both problems.
However Timberwolf works with the page and can also upload images but i dont use the browser as its not in good shape yet. |

This message was sent by my phone. Funnily the site works exactly the same using Chrome on my S3. I don't see using a tablet being much more of an issue, unless you are specifically using the mobile page.
Actually, having just looked, my S3's Chrome wasn't set to use the desktop mode. There was a specifically created mobile page for the site before the recent server moves. However, since most mobiles and tablets are more than capable of browsing the site in full, it really is a bit of a moot point.
As for the errors, if you really want to put that into any sort of context, google.co.uk has 26 errors, 4 warnings, and microsoft has 555 errors and 447 warnings - ergo, I don't really see us as overly bad Last edited by _Steve_ on 06-Jun-2013 at 10:20 PM.
