| Does it need a 400MB archive as well as the data files? Also, why does a game need a huge GUI system anyway? When it was rewritten in C or whatever they meant by that it certainly wasn't in the Amiga spirit needing huge dependants! |

| Hypex, you might want to try this archive: http://pferrucci.perso.sfr.fr/Amig/qt-user.lha It's 67 MB only. There is no installation provided but I'm sure you can figure it out from the included script. _________________ Philippe 'Elwood' Ferrucci Sam460 1.10 Ghz AmigaOS 4 betatester Amiga Translator Organisation

The basis for this - Elite: The New Kind - is tiny and very much in the spirit of the original (it is a very faithful reimplementation to the point that I believe Pinder even got Bell to provide feedback on the implementation of various algorithms, and other details were gleaned by reverse engineering the BBC version).
I don't know what features if any they've added to justify the bloat in this version... QT certainly seems totally unnecessary unless they've added lots of new functionality - TNK's graphics code is trivially simple (I hacked OpenGL support into it 10 years or so, so I spent quite a bit of time reading the source; others have as well; I also have a mod that does basic fractal planet textures somewhere - I should dig it up, though frankly OOLite etc. are miles and miles ahead).
Interestingly there's another open source Elite clone that's also named mElite, based on TextElite (a "text adventure" version of Elite by Ian Bell), but it looks like it's Windows only: http://page.math.tu-berlin.de/~kappmeie/melite/ _________________ Wiki for new/returning Amiga users - Projects: ACE basic compiler / FrexxEd / Git

| Thanks for the link. Much better. Though still will break my downloads volume so need to shift it elsewhere. |
