News   News : Nvidia DirectX 9 market lead chipped away by ATI
   posted by The_Editor on 3-Aug-2003 14:49:00 (1884 reads)
The Register reports: "Nvidia's leadership in the desktop space is now well established, but it's interesting that the company's share of the high-end of the market isn't as high. The implication is clear: its arch-rival, ATI, has begun to chip away at its lead, thanks to products like the Radeon 9800, 9700 and 9600."

This has been a long time coming. Nvidia´s benchmarks with the Ti4000 series almost still surpass those of the 5000 series. Besides, their newer graphics cards focused moreso on bulky design rather than power. Value for money, ATI is way ahead.

In any case, I had installed DirectX 9 on my Windows OS on this PeeCee (this is a dual boot machine with Linux) and most of the newer features are not even employed by any games (at least to my knowledge).

NVidia more powerfull and more suitable for programs I use (9180 VS against Ati card ) But second Monitor out on Dual Head cards (as 9180) seems extended and doesn't get smooth playbacks as first monitor.

@ the editor

I have the Ge Force 4 Ti4200 128MB, it´s a great card, more than good enough for my extravagant gaming needs. However, the newer NVidia cards don´t do it for me anymore. The newer Radeon series are excellent. If I ever decide to upgrade my PeeCee (because I know that I´ll be buying the A1 Lite), I will be opting for the higher end Radeon cards. Performance wise, they absolutely rip through Nvidia.

/me waits in hope that ATi will support the A1 .

ATi are a damn sight more open to Amiga than Nvidia are !!

I've already got my graphics card for my A1 ... Its a Radeon 8500 ... 64mb ( I think)

It'll do just to be starting with !
