Internet News   Internet News : New AmigaOS 4.x Software Developers Mailing-List
   posted by Anonymous on 29-Aug-2003 16:26:52 (3758 reads)
In anticipation of the public release of AmigaOS 4.0 and the OS4.0 SDK I have set up a mailing-list for those people interested in developing software for AmigaOS 4.x to exchange information.

Obviously at the moment the main topics will be about preparing OS 3.x code for OS4.x and adapting code to compile on GCC. Hopefully we may be able to attract some of those Beta-testers who already have access to the new OS and SDK to drop in and give some hints and titbits of info.

To subscribe:-

Send a blank email to os4-prog-subscribe@yahoogroups.com(Email only - no access to web archives etc.)

or

go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/os4-prog and sign up via the web.

This is strictly for those interested in development of software for AmigaOS 4.x.

For general OS 4 talk try www.yahoogroups.com/list/amigaos4

For general C programming try www.yahoogroups.com/list/amiga-c

Except that this isn't a general list. I checked and I couldn't find a public mailing list specifically for OS 4 programming so I created one, simple as that.

I can't see what the problem is, it's for programmers, not ordinary users. Unless of course you don't want to run any new software on your shiny new OS and motherboard.

@Uncharted:

i think it is a very good idea. Having OS4 is one thing, but the platform needs good and a lot of programs as fast as possible, making use of the new PPC.

I'm starting C++ this year so hopefully one day i will be able to write programs for OS4 also.

@Uncharted

It's no problem at all. Just getting a bit messy with all these lists. I guess it's going to be better when the amigaos 4 dev site comes up. If you want you can use #AmigaDev on undernet as the irc channel for your mailing list.

DaveyD could even add a developer forum here on amigaworld. (Edit, oups, just saw that there already is one such forum)

I'd prefer this AmigaWorld.net mailing list to Yahoo's. The numerous advertisements in Yahoo AmigaOne and AmigaOS4 lists are very annoying for a a modem user... Even if I have disabled downloading the pics.

The only reason for using yahoogroups is that you can have the messages e-mailed to you directly. many people (including myself) find this easier than using a web based forum. Obviously having the web archive there is also a bonus.

The web based forums here and a dedicated mailing-list service like yahoogroups are two different things, which compliment each other nicely
