software OS4   software OS4 : Amiga Developer Network: Working Weekend Report
   posted by amigakit on 29-Jun-2018 17:14:43 (2410 reads)

Two weeks ago, some of the Amiga Developer team members made the trip to Cardiff from Italy, Czech Republic and of course within the United Kingdom to attend a long working development weekend.

It was four days of Amiga coding work, comradery and late evening meals often involving curry and beer. Getting together as a team in the same place and being able to discuss ideas has great benefit resulting in a good exchange of ideas and solutions to coding problems.

Good progress on the next version of the Enhancer Software was made and proposals for future projects explored.

The report on the projects that were worked on leading up to and including the weekend are published here:

Is Anti-Aliased border in Xdock done by skin or is it natively rendered? If so it's a great step ahead!
Well done all, for your work on this Enhancer pack!

Petrol.

@petrol

If you mean the smooth rounded corners, it uses a two prerendered bitmaps (builtin as binary data), one for the alpha the other for the border. Those are used as masks for the actual rendering.

The bitmaps were ofcourse rendered in SketchBlock Pro

Cool, is it something that can be tuned as in Amidock?
That's a thing I like with Amidock, you can have a main dock and subdocks with different style.

All docks can be completely customsed independently of each other, so one may have rounded cornes another square.

The prefs uses a hierachy which enables you to operate on a dock individually or to act on all subdocks of a given dock at the same time.

@Amigakit

Have you considered holding a show to coincide with one a future development meeting? Obviously it will mean the loss of a day working but it does offer the chance to give live previews of your own software and other projects the developers might be working on. It would also give the opportunity for Q&A sessions with the developers and for user to give feedback and share ideas with the developers.

Hi Rob

Its a good idea.

We would be able to accommodate only about 40 people in our offices for such an event so would need to hire a separate venue if many users wanted to attend.

As you are local, keep in contact and we can alert you to the next event.

Speaking of AmiDock - would bug reports regarding AmiDock for OS3.9 even be considered? I tried using contact info from the home page ( https://www.qdev.de/?location=amiga/amidock ), but never got any reply. What is legal status of AmiDock on 68k?

@kolla

We will be cross porting X-Dock v2 to OS3 too. One of my frustrations is how poor AmiDock is on OS3.

It is amazing to read such news! it has been a while since there was a dev meeting, speaking about the gold amiga days, so i am really happy to read these kind of news. If there will be a next dev meeting where "normal users" can attend, be sure I will be there!

Go Amiga Go!

@ Rudei

That would be cool.

I have only been to one WOA - WOA '94 at the old Wembley. It was amazing. Probably the last well attended big show with lots of commercial presence. A great experience and so glad I went.

Well, I don't know what X-Dock 2 is, I just would like to squash a few issues of the OS3.9 AmiDock. Maybe it's time to make a new dock commodity for OS 3.1.4, free for dependency of Reaction and other third party toolkits :)
