News   News : UBoot 1.3.1g for Sam440ep/Sam440ep-Flex boards available
posted by Lecta on 6-Dec-2020 16:47:57 (761 reads)
Bassano del Grappa, Italy - 06 Dec, 2020

ACube Systems is happy to announce the availability of another update to UBoot firmware for the Sam440ep, Sam440-Flex and Sam440-Flex SE.

Our commitment to the Amiga Community is still stronger as it was at the beginning of our adventure, and it will bring more news in the upcoming year.

This release, a “Christmas gift” to all our customers, brings the following enhancements and fixes:

U-boot 1.3.1g — Dec 04, 2020

Improved support for Radeon HD and Radeon RX graphic cards.
Now you can use a Radeon HD / RX via a PCI to PCI Express adapter. On the Sam440ep flex motherboard, it is recommended to use PCI slot #1 for maximum performance. Please note that full support for Radeon RX is still under development and for this reason, with many models of gfx cards, U-Boot does not show any output, but the card works fine once the operating system is loaded.

Introduced a new menu entry to change the x86 gfx BIOS emulator accuracy.
If your graphic card show some visual problems on startup, try increasing the x86 BIOS emulator accuracy.

As always, read carefully the instructions in the archive.

You can find the updates on Sam440ep and Sam440ep-Flex product pages.

We hope you will enjoy this update.

Stay tuned for other news in the upcoming months.

A nice little update I have been waiting on for the last few years. I will need to get an adapter and supported card ordered from somewhere and give this a try of he holiday period.

As my little sam440ep has been feeling limited my it onboard video for a number of years now.

hopefully this will allow 2D apps and other less demanding stuff to run at a more modern 1080p resolution on modern TFT panel.

Will be interesting to eventually see some benchmarks.

Sam440ep 2D benchmarks

Also to see if/how well 3D and new video playback work .

And ACube says it will "bring more news in the upcoming year."

I updated Uboot in my sam440flex rev 2 mobo, purchased the radeon hd version 2 driver (Enhancer plus) downloaded and installed the radeon hd V2 driver. Added line to kicklayout file. Changed the uboot x86 compatability to "complete". Modified screenmode prefs monitor tab to detect automaticaly. Renamed the DEVS:Monitor/Radeon 9250 to Radeon. Also updated the tooltypes from Radeon 9250 to Radeon and changed the tooltype length to match.

Installed a Diamond Radeon HD 5450 (LP) with PCI to PCIe adapter (Using DVI)

Upon booting, UBoot shows up on the monitor, but after the Amigaos 4.1 final logo shows on the screen..... The system reboots again. Does not boot into workbench.

If the card works with UBoot it should work with workbench, right?

What am I missing here???

Workbench is running fine with the Radeon 9250 at 1920*1080 60hz.
