Good one, this one.
On Amiga.org Mr. Toner mentions, that Amiga products will probably ship with SNAP drivers.
I wonder what's the status of these drivers and Picasso96 (are they usable as display drivers, is picasso native, etc ... ) ?

Looking at the screenshot, I wonder if Amidock supports icon scaling and textual popups. I think it takes up far too much space and would prefer half size icons with text only showing up as popups when you move the pointer over them...

Didn't find any info on this in the Os4 feature set document either.

If you think it takes too much space, then use bigger screen resolution

@miksuh

I intend to use 1600*1200 minimum (Anything else would be a step back for me). And still Amidock is too big for my taste. And I don't want to scale all icons by hand.

Certainly makes one wish one could get ones grubby mittens on a copy of OS4 soon, considering one has a Radeon

Using "voltage" instead of "potential", which leads to inventing new words like "amperage" instead of "current" (I, measured in A) or possible "charge" (amperehours, Ah or Coulomb, C). Sometimes I don't even know what people mean.

@ Orgin

You could use text buttons or tiny icons without text labels instead. For proper icon scaling, usually scalable vector graphic icon support would be required which AFAIK is already planned for later AmigaOS releases.

@MikeB

As I said above I wouldn't want to bother downscaling them by hand.

Scaling bitmaps isn't that hard, has been done before ;)

Though it would look better if bicubic or biliniar scaling was used rather than pure pixel by pixel downscaling. And that with 16/24 bit mapping or a closest match from the color table scheme.

I would settle for a simple 1/2 pixel downscaling though if available.

Direct bitmap scaling is supported by the OS from 3.1 or something IIRC so that in itself isn't a problem.

And popup text for each icon is a definite must! :)

Anyway if any of the Friedens read this, are any of this already implemented?

Having used Object Dock under WinXP for a while, now, I'd say some kind of realtime icon scaling would be mandatory for AmigaOS4.1 It's possible to grab the edge of the dock and just pull to resize the icons in realtime. Very nice. Of course it's stolen from MacOSX...

It's nice to have that kind of freedom, and using a screen resolution of 1600x1200 and some CPU power, I can't really care about having pixel precise 1:1 sized icons, when bilinear filtered 128x128 24-bit PNG icons can be scaled very beautifully. I'd really like that in OS4.1.
