News   News : Another nail in the coffin???
posted by bugg on 19-Dec-2002 21:17:24 (1553 reads)
As a follow up to _Steve_'s Microsoft 98 news article, Sony and Panasonic have announced that they are to collaborate on a new Linux Distro aimed at "digital home electronic devices". They have also invited Hitachi, IBM, NEC, Philips, Samsung and Sharp etc to take part in the project and all their work will be released under the GPL. Is the time coming with OS4 on the horizon and linux dramatically increasing in use that Microsoft users will start to decrease in numbers and we see their time at the top come to a rather abrupt end.
Lets hope so.

Probably a long way off, but I'm sure it will be Microsoft that ends up putting the nails in their own coffin.
