I'm prety sure that Sam440EP install media doesn't have Radeon HD driver by default. Sam 460 has, but 440EP doesn't. |
This video was made in 2012 when the A-EON Radeon HD driver was first introduced. The following link also describes the Radeon HD driver supported in the list when combining a compatible graphics card with a PCI to PCIE adapter. http://a-eon.com/?page=radeonhd I am not sure what you are meaning to say but the video is of a comparison between a Sam 440ep Flex running a standard Radeon 9250 with the same graphics test of a game being developed against the same Sam 440ep Flex with a PCI to PCIE Bridge running a Radeon HD 6450 as to which the topic of discussion is about.
I posted this video as visual reference to the benifits of such an upgrade as I find it more meaningful than just a bunch of bench test results with numbers and charts.

Is that because of: Conflict between onboard M9 vs another radeon? Lack of DMA on 33Mhz PCI? Something else? _________________ - KimmoK // For freedom, for honor, for AMIGA // // Thing that I should find more time for: CC64 - 64bit Community Computer? |

| How do I make sure that DMA is enabled and active?
I have an Asus RadeonHD 5450 + adapter in the 66 MHz slot in my Sam440ep-Flex now.

Frustration, that's the word, and also abandoned. That's how I feel, I have long been trying to find some graphics card of the 7xxx series that works in my Sam440. No, all other series work correctly, but just the only valid for new drivers and probably future programs do not work. And that's very frustrating. I don't know if the fault is ACube (if it still exists, for years no signs of life), for not to update the UBoot, as was done with the 460. Or worse, of A-Eon, who has just made new drivers for 7xxx, so the others will stay behind in everything that comes. Who guarantees me that when buying a X5000, not the same thing happen in a couple of years? Finally, frustrated and abandoned, so I am, I would not have to say (as they sang Led Zeppelin) "babe, I'm gonna leave you." |

@RIBDEVIL Does your 7xxx card show any video signal when starting the machine (ie the u-boot output) and then stop displaying after loading the kickstart files, or there isn't any video signal at all ? If the former, the problem is that you need both the pcigraphic.library kmod and the RadeonHD lite driver from the AmigaOS 4.1 FE Sam460 CD (or the full driver from A-Eon) |

we just released an official u-boot update (version 1.3.1f) for Sam440ep boards (both mini-itx and flex variants)
ACube web site will be updated shortly, in the meantime, interested flex users may download the new updater from this location:
http://www.soft3dev.net/firmware/Sam440ep-flex_updater_131f.zip
It solves some compatibility issues with some Radeon HD cards (but it's untested with 7xxx cards)
Please read the instructions carefully ! |

Sun, 06 Dec 2020 UBoot 1.3.1g for Sam440ep/Sam440ep-Flex boards available
Bassano del Grappa, Italy - 06 Dec, 2020
ACube Systems is happy to announce the availability of another update to UBoot firmware for the Sam440ep, Sam440-Flex and Sam440-Flex SE.
Our commitment to the Amiga Community is still strong as it was at the beginning of our adventure, and it will bring more news in the upcoming year.
This release, a “Christmas gift” to all our customers, brings the following enhancements and fixes:
U-boot 1.3.1g — Dec 04, 2020
Improved support for Radeon HD and Radeon RX graphic cards. Now you can use a Radeon HD / RX via a PCI to PCI Express adapter. On the Sam440ep flex motherboard, it is recommended to use PCI slot #1 for maximum performance. Please note that full support for Radeon RX is still under development and for this reason, with many models of gfx cards, U-Boot does not show any output, but the card works fine once the operating system is loaded. Introduced a new menu entry to change the x86 gfx BIOS emulator accuracy. If your graphic card show some visual problems on startup, try increasing the x86 BIOS emulator accuracy.
As always, read carefully the instructions in the archive.
You can find the updates on Sam440ep and Sam440ep-Flex product pages.
We hope you will enjoy this update.
Stay tuned for other news in the upcoming months. _________________ Sam460ex : Radeon Rx550 Single slot Video Card : SIL3112 SATA card |

Yes, cards based on the PEX8112 and PI7C9X chipsets work

Does these PCI to PCIe brides support 66mhz / 2x speed? |
According to the datasheet;
The PEX 8112 has a single parallel bus segment supporting the PCI v.3.0 protocol, and a 32-bit wide parallel data path running up to 66MHz.

Is there a Radeon HD basic driver in Sam 440 install media, to make testing easier? |
I suspect that the basic driver isn't included since a Radeon HD card wouldn't typically be used in a Sam440. It might be worth checking the Kickstart drawer on the CD just to be sure. |

Can you put a video up Youtube of an SI or RX card running on the Sam440 boards?
Is there any chance of you getting hold of the source for uboot on the AmigaONE XE and updating that in a similar manner? It would be great to have Warp3D Nova and hardware video decoding on these G3 and G4 machines. |

Thanks for the info. I bought that bridge and few different cables.
Now would be nice to have possibility to get basic driver for a Sam 440ep so that I could test this before a buy.

I have successfully updated a firmware and bought the same adapter. What card you want to buy? _________________ Sam440ep-flex 800MHz 1GB RAM R9250 128MB SB Live!

It looks like RadeonHD Lite is the way to go.... http://wiki.amiga.org/index.php?title=RadeonHD

I have a feeling that the Lite version doesn't support Polaris cards since the agreement between A-EON and Hyperion for the driver pre-dates the release of Polaris based cards. It should work with Southern Islands based cards though.
If my assumption that the Lite driver is not included on the Sam440 version of 4.1FE is correct it may be worth contacting Trevor or Matthew and asking if they can mail a copy for testing puposes. |

You are right. As the name "RadeonHD Lite" suggests, this cut-down version of the driver only supports the HD series of Radeon cards. Polaris cards, on the other hand, are served by the Radeon RX driver, which AFAIK does not exist in a "Lite" version._________________ The Rear Window blog

It may be worth noting that tools such as Ranger and Sysmon should be able detect and detect and identify cards even without drivers installed. Last edited by Rob on 09-Dec-2020 at 05:37 PM.
