Could you be more precise and say which cards will have 3D support: only Radeon7500 or all with R2xx chipset? |
In my blessed ingnorance I would think that it makes no difference what you call the card as long as they use the same chipset.
Then again maybe the manufacturer of the card is doing some fancy "nonstandard" thingies with it.
I think we should accept what we have been told now and stop pestering the developers.
@Rogue and Hyperionmp
Thx again from us all for the effort above and beyond the call of duty!

| @Steff The R2xx chipset is in R7xxx, R8xxx and R9xxx. Roque said "only" 7500, Hyperionmp said "cards with R2xx" that means some of R8xxx and R9xxx will have 3D support. In my opinion its not the same but maybe I don't understand something. _________________ Sam440ep-flex 800MHz 1GB RAM R9250 128MB SB Live!

When choosing a graphics card always keep in mind that 3D drivers for anything but the 7500 cards is still a good deal away! The Radeon 8xxx and 9xxx may be supported by the 2D drivers, but for 3D it's limited to the 7xxx series. |
This is good news for me, my A1 sports a 7500, I was tempted to buy a newer card, but in the end stuck with the recomended one -- oh happy me!! I get nice 3D!!
Thanks again Hyperion._________________ Greg Schofield, Perth Australia |

I've got a VooDoo3 3000 because it seems the best choise (for 2D & 3D support) at the the time I've bought my A1SE (last december), now you tell me about I've to buy a radeon 7500 to get 3D support??? |
I was just talking about Radeon family cards. Of course the Permedia 2 and Vodooo 3 Warp3D drivers will still be there, but for Radeon we will have to restrict ourselves to the 7xxx and possibly 8xxx at the moment._________________ Seriously, if you want to contact me do not bother sending me a PM here. | @Rogue How about making this Status-Update in a regular basis like Fleecy's Q&A ? 15 Minutes per Week to write a little summary of the week ? _________________

Naah! Just a few snippets of info on their website once in a while would suffice, Eyetech got round to updating their website so it looks like there is preparation for something
A weekly column would use up too much valuable coding time. Let them iron out the bugs. You will appreciate it in the end. _________________ Trust me. I'm a doctor. |

The RV200 chip used on the Radeon 7500 is actually a bit of a hybrid. Its 2D core is taken from the R200 series, but the 3D unit is lifted from the R100 family.

As you can see, there isn't much that is keeping us from releasing the Developer Pre-Release. Please have a bit of patience. I know it's been rather streched, but everyone involved is doing the best he can to get this resolved. We're really almost there. |
Aaaahhhhhhhhh, now I feel better. Hearing ANY kind of status update from either of you guys brightens my day and helps me know there's still progress happening.
Now I can go back to tolerating Linux for a while again, assured that my favorite OS is still making its way toward my A1.

| Hi,
When the Developer Pre-Release is in hands of me, , is there going to be a site, section here, etc were feedback can be reported? On that cd will be some developer material also if I am correct. Is there now way some of it can be released to the dev people already? I mean, that will certainly kill the time till the cd is here. Right?

| Hey, that's true. Rogue, how about putting the developer docs in a restricted website, and post the password in the "A1 owners" forum? An entire OS+tools is a big download, but all the new developer docs put together can't be much bigger than a few megs. I mean, it's all just text files, right? if you're just waiting to fix a couple of minor driver bugs and you're going to give us the docs anyway, why wait?
That way, instead of bugging you for updates, we'll be too busy reading up docs! |

Out of curiosity, how about Voodoo 5? Are there Warp 3d drivers for it? |

| What's the longest amount of time the OS has run without locking up?
Will a 64 Gig version of AOS4.0 be compiled for G4 CPUs? Upto 2 real and 62 virtual? (Minus indexing of memory blocks in virtual memory.)
AmigaOne! AOS4.0 Be the first small scale computer with Giga brains!!!!!
P.S. 62+ Gigs of virtual memory WILL get us written up in the big time computer magazines/websites!! (And could lead to a stabler OS, in certain circumstances.) |

Well the last card which Radeon released 3D specs for was the 9200. I wouldn't expect 3d drivers for card's newer than this for a long time. I'm sticking with my 7500 till there's 3d drivers available for newer cards anyway. But on the off chance I just brought a 9200 for the PC which could find it's way in my A1 if 3D drivers appear for it. |

The Voodoo 3 drivers work with the Voodoo 4/5, they just don't exploit any special features (yet)

Yes. At first glance it looked somewhat like a distortion signal on a poorly-shielded cable, but it seems it is really an out-of-range PLL value, which is queer since the values come from the internal PLL table in the BIOS rom. _________________ Seriously, if you want to contact me do not bother sending me a PM here.
