| How about an X server on OS4, so that we can run Linux without resetting??
I remember that there are (68k) X servers on Aminet; has anyone tried to use them on OS4? _________________ And may the AmigaGuide you!

Hows the performance? This is something I would use all the time. It would be great to have a native OS4 version. _________________ Micro A1 866 Mhz and AmigaOS 4.1 PowerMac G4 1.4 Ghz and MorphOS 2.7 |

Well it's basically finished, just haven't bothered releasing it, there's even a GUI made for it by Ferran Garcia. Anyway maybe I'll release it at AmiTron ? ;D I need to look at it again, I remember games running ok, but heavy scene demos runinng not at 100% speed.
@BobW
it works at least, it's about the speed I expect from an X Server. No you can't play Halflife 2 with it. ;) _________________ Nicolas Mendoza |

hmm.. Another candidate for a Big Bash 3 release ?
With Smithies Pai Hai demo, Big Bash 3 is starting to look interesting.
Just need the Freidens to pop over !!
Heck, If they are coming lets get Garry Hary, Alan Redhouse too !!

Brilliant!! I wonder if it can find my Linux partitions though; they are defined on a disk where I can't get rid of the MBR safely unless I make a full backup and wipe the disk.... (long story, I have described it in another thread). But it's worth a try; failing that, I'll just do the backup some day and try it then.
(edit) I searched and found versions for 68020, 68030 and 68040; which one did you use?Last edited by mwoof on 22-Feb-2005 at 05:18 PM.

Er, the x server doesn't run Linux or allow it to access Linux partitions. All it does is allow you to connect to a machine running X (be that the local host or a remote machine) and show the display on your Amiga. For those with more knowledge of these things, I realise that's a gross simplification so no comments please! If you had another linux box, you could connect and run a session on that machine, but with the GUI showing on the Amiga.
xami, and other X servers, are not equivalent to a "LinuxOnAmiga". _________________ Snowboarder, Airsofter, Programmer, Writer and AmigaOne XE G4 owner. Experienced applications developer and part-time snowboard instructor |

Metal joe beat me to it. Sounds like you are trying to run linux inside OS4. Thats not what X does.
I'm using X to connect to a seperate linux box and some Unix servers at work. _________________ Micro A1 866 Mhz and AmigaOS 4.1 PowerMac G4 1.4 Ghz and MorphOS 2.7 |

It's a shame for me (I´m not a programmer... :¬/ ), I would like to be able to, but no, I haven't made that GUI. Vicente Gimeno, perhaps?

In some circumstances it crashes (can't figure the specific reason, mostly when aweb is used simultaniousely).
Amiwin is more stable, but limited --- demo version (BTW: I would like to register but seems like it's impossible now )
Did you by a chance got it working in windowed mode? Or with acceleration?
I can't launch it in window, acceleration causes refresh problems.

So the X Server does not do what I had thought. Shame...
Is there actually any such program on any platform? Maybe it was my deception, but I think I did see this on Pea Seas. _________________ And may the AmigaGuide you!
