Amiga Inc. Eyetech and Hyperion already have made a big commitment to this Amiga effort. I would think they could form part of a group to pick what software is needed to continue to promote the success of the platform, perhaps some members of AmigaWorld.Net could be included in this group too. |
Well, as much as I hate to say it, AInc has already stated they have no plans to bring software to AOS4, possibly with the exception of AA if 'the A1 partners want it,' which is a bit ambiguous (ie, who pays for it?), so I think their involvement unlikely. That may of course change, as all things can, but I wouldn't expect it to be in the near future.
EyeTech..umm, I'm trying to take this post seriously, as I know that's what you intended, but Alan is MIA as far as 'us mere mortals' know. He seems more interested in some unknown market than in the AmigaOne market. Were this to change, of course he would be welcome.
Hyperion (or more correctly, the Freidens) have more than enough on their plate for the foreseeable future, yet are still involved in some OS4 ports like OO, released pthreads and other bits, but would certainly be welcome in any capacity.
Personally, I think if we want to see anything happening here, it needs to be done by _us_ at this point. Maybe in time, with some success, we could increase interaction with the involved companies (although honestly, I'm thinking mostly Hyperion at this point), or perhaps a dealer would be amenable to a discount on A1 boards purchased for 'donation' through the Foundation?
Don't get me wrong- I like your idea as stated, but have to believe it's more 'pie in the sky'/ideal world than what we can hope for, at least initially.
People often say things like 'the Amiga has survived because of the community.'
Perhaps this is our chance to prove it?_________________ Are we not done with the same silly arguments and flames yet??! |
