OS4 where are you???

Hi there everyone,

I hear rumblings about a 3rd update to OS4, does this mean OS4 isn't going to be released soon? I hope it is for the sake of the platform, I want OS4 to be a success but the longer it takes to get the basics out there, the older even the basics will start to look

Does anyone think it MIGHT be this year, or do you all think next? And this ISN'T for flaming it's an honest users questions (Someone who WANTS OS4 actually).

Chris

Seriously man ... I have AOS4 already and it works beautifully.

I agree we need the final release before we can even begin thinking of interesting anyone outside the current userbase.

But if you want the OS anyway, why not just go ahead and BUY it then?! You're going to get the final version through updates anyway, and you get to show some well-needed support to the developers in the process.

I'm also looking forward to the final release. But I don't feel sorry for people waiting for AOS4 when it's in fact already here.

@Oxygenet

Pre Release is pretty stable, not as good at running 68k nativly as I'd like, needs a DVD player (but then so does Windows XP), a decent web Browser, and a MP3 ripper built in, but it's certainly getting there.

You know, I'd recommend not waiting, after all buy now, and you'll be the first to recieve the full version.

mp3 ripper = lame

Both OS4 native

Okey, one's with Graphical Interfaces, not for me, but for the er.. beginer, oh what the heck, yeah for me!

Couldn't get mplayer to work, but to be honest I do only try for about 3 seconds, I'll give it another go sometime.

forgot about Lame, only found I'd downloaded it last last night! SO much to play with, so little time.

I once had to do a full reinstall of W*nd*ws 2000 after installing LAME, so it can't be all bad! (The only time I've ever HAD to reinsall *that* OS, I'm not normally a it's going a bit slow so reinstall kinda guy!)

Hi, may i suggest something? Why don't you get yourself a MicroA1-C and update your Pre-OS4.0 to Update 3 (you will need both Update 1 and 2 for that)? I promise you that you will have a lot of fun an not a single boring moment at all!

Let me tell you something a bit funny With the PC, i have tried again...although a bit desperately, seeking contacts with females on the net. Even that it was successful at some point by only having girlfriends (not sweetlovers or lovers in any way, just friends), i still wanted more, but it has not yet happened. I guess the keyword is "patience". In the other end, a lot has abanded me. Some of the reasons have been that i became frustrated and at some points, angry, while other moments i only became too tired and depressed giving up the hope...

So now that i will have the new MicroA1-C and Pre3 OS4.0, then i will again hook up my broadband-connection to the MicroA1-C for hobbyish use, chatting with my friends in the JabberWocky 1.6 (will update to the latest one), surfing the net with both IBrowse and AWeb, and instead of YAM, i will write and read mails in the latest version of SimpleMail, and connecting myself to IRC with WookieChat instead of the AmIRC one, so yes i assure you that you will have a lot of fun, and so will I

@Stephen_Robinson

for mp3 ripping (and other formats) use LAME + thempegencoder gui , theese work great together and its so easy that even my gf use it daily(and she figured it how o do it herself too...thats more than what she did on her moms pc...)

The gui is os4native aswell as lame.

For a dvd player... well mplayer is nice enough for now but i also miss a proper gui though once set up correctly it have OSD and text features along with keyboard support for all functions.

fire up diropus 4 and use this line as a button to get mplayer up fast and easy: c:mplayer -vo cgx_vmem::TINYBORDER {f}

set closedelay to 2
set stacksize high

activate async flag....save the button and welcome aboard....or ofcourse u can use the os4native gui

@Toaks

You can do something else. Does the OS4 port allow it to be launced from an icon and does it read the tooltypes? I've set up 2 icons in MorphOS, one to play DVDs and one to launch the player to open up a file and put them in a dock.

FreeDB with FreeDB_CopyTracks.rexx is a nice solution too for ripint MP3s using
Lame. It should be mentioned I think.

@Oxygenet

when does it come, when is it finished blablabla :p

Just buy the damn machine and start using it.
I almost never use my a4000 anymore.
I use my os4 with a1 every day use.

And i never ask myself, when is the final version
to come out. The questions i ask me when is next
update coming. Who cares about the final thing.
And when the final thing comes well ask the
question... when is the next update coming :)

Buy the damn thing or ill send THOR with his hammer
after you. Do you still want the final thing ?

Yes, there will be an update soon, but that doesn't mean OS4 isn't going to be released soon.

No, it's going to be this year.

What a nonsensical release date.

Of course, it's "When it's done"

There are some that would say (rightfully so?) that WindowsXP also needs a decent web browser as standard too...

You need another one to play when the computer is actually ready to use.
Maybe add more for malfunctions and then we'll have music all day.

If you have a G3... wait for the next version. If you have a G4 download Mplayer dirty preview 4 and the cool and simple mplayergui. Now you have the best player on this planet

Also lame has a gui, but i don't remember the name.

http://ikir.iksnet.it/computers.php
You can see my OS4 screenshots there, 2 with Mplayer running.

@Flystone

You'll be able to use it on an AmigaONE, or a classic Amiga with a CyberstormPPC or BlizzardPPC accelerator board.

When the hardware is released, you'll be able to use it on the ACK boards aswell.

There is also the small matter of the "mystery hardware"...
