| I know that for most people, OS4 final has worked out well, but for me its an absolute nightmare. It is unstable to the point of being unusable - I am lucky if it has an uptime of more than five minutes and it doesn't matter what I am using it for (compiling, web browsing etc).
I am a beta tester but have recently moved house so cannot post to the list. I was wondering if anyone else had experienced a similar thing. It makes no sense as the crashes are perfectly random and it is a clean vanilla install, that was installed onto an empty partition. The only pattern that I have seen is that while the crashes are random, they *do* seem to happen whenever I am loading a program.
The only thing that I can think of is that it is rather hot here at the moment. However, I did not experience these crashes with prerelease 4, so I can't believe that it is the heat.
Any ideas would be appreciated!

Could you try without activating ethernet ? That means disable ADDNETINTERFACE in ss.

I had the same problem after I moved too! Turned out the the memory stick had become loose during the move. One good push, and my A1 was stable again.

- Try to remove the USB kernel modules from your kicklayout. - Check your MUI libraries, because IBrowse installer could overwrite the PPC native classes with old 68k ones

If crashes are happening at loading time of programs that are not part of the system after a clean install on a blank partition, then chances are you are trying to run programs installed from a previous OS4 installation on an old partition and then probably the crashing programs are missing some library/classes...
If crashs happen also when loading system programs (i.e. Multiview, Notepad, TTFManager, etc.) then you may have a problem somewhere ! _________________ AOS 4.1 : I dream it, Hyperion did it ! Now dreaming AOS 4.2... Thank you to all devs involved for this great job ! |

Antique has the same problems whit his AmigaONE-SE computer,
We have checked his RAM on my computer whit AmigaOS4 Final, it’s not RAM problem. (MUI Classes or MUIMaster.library is found in most crash logs )
No we did not install any MUI classes on his computer, we did not install any 68k program, just using IB3.4 that is in utilities folder will crash it,
Computer also crash during installation on Antique's computer.
Maybe it has some thing to do whit new Power Management or Memory System,
For the record I have no problem whit OS4 Final on my AmigaOne-XE.

What sort of machine are you using? I had random crashes/lockups with my XE running a Radeon 9250, or as it turned out, a 9250se which is actually a 9200se rebadged I believe.
I had to disable interrupts i.e. "(INTERRUPT=YES)" and turn on softsprite i.e. "SOFTSPRITE=YES" on the radeon monitor driver to get my system stable. |

Are you back in town? I could give your machine some TLC if you like.

Yes, I have disabled Ethernet already because I prefer to only start it if I need it and have a faster startup. However, it didn't make any difference.
This morning I took the case off and played Wesnoth for about an hour and I have been browsing the web now for one hour without a crash. So it may simply have been heat related after all. It's just a coincidence the crashes started with OS4 Final.
The real test will be when I start compiling with GCC again - that was when I was getting the most crashes.

Yep, got back last Thursday. I was planning on bringing the Amiga to SAUG to get you and others to look at it, but that's not until the 10th of February.
As said elsewhere in this thread, it's been behaving itself today, now that I took the case off, and it is rather cooler today. But the real test is when I start compiling later today.
Anyway, I will bring it regardless as I want to get a DMA capable HD cable so it would be nice to get some advice from the hardware guru!
