| I just accident;y discovered a way to lock up IBrowse 2.4 from OS4.1 U6.. The special OS4 edition. I tried to do a search and it stopped dead with my CPU time gone up. I thought it may have been a random bug so reset and tried again. But the same thing happened again!
Given the context of the bug I wonder if IBrowse goes in an endless loop out of fear. Here's what to do. Open IBrowse up. At the top right in the internet search gadget, make sure Google is selected, then type the following and press return:
amigaworld.net ssollie
Here it locks it up every time! Now, AFAIK, the OS4 version of IBrowse doesn't work on other Amiga systems. IIRC I couldn't get it working on OS3. I haven't tested the standard 68K build of IBrowse 2.4. But perhaps people could test and see it happens to them also. |

Just tested - for me every serach string fails. It doesn't seem to be a problem of the serach gadget. You can lock up IBrowse with using the usual Google home page as well. It's the google page that locks up IBrowse... _________________ X1000|II/G4|440ep|2000/060|2000/040|1000 |

Google changed behaviour. Browse with JS on, or spoof as IE 5.x or 6.x and searching will be OK.
Same for NetSurf. Odyssey works good even without JS. |

That's interesting. So it looks like an IBrowse bug and not an emulation bug. In any case my dad is sick of using this OS4 machine where no matter what he does all the browsers just crash!
For the time being I put my PC in the computer room and now have my A1 in my room. Have to use my bed as a chair. |

I do have JS on. I rarely turn it off. I may be forced to give up on NetSurf, the font is too small and zooming is broken for sites that do actually load. |

Google works (did work few days ago) in Ibrowse+JS. As JS in NetSurf is basic (even by IBrowse standards), I assume this is source of problem.
Just spoof as IE 5.x/6.x or use Odyssey (with JS turned off, it is faster than Netsurf). |

This can be changed in NetSurf prefs (I did this as my eyes are weak...). |

I use "http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=%s" and IB2.5(beta) it's working fine here. JS is on _________________ OS4 Rocks X1000 beta tester, Sam440 Flex (733)

It is a JS bug, by the look of it - switching JS off would be a solution. However, my recommendation would be to set up a URL prefs entry (e.g. "http://www.google.co#?/#?") to spoof as MSIE 5.5. The Google homepage will look better then, and so will the search results, but it will also avoid the JS code that is triggering this busy loop, so JS does not need to be disabled. While you're at it, "Ignore custom colors" for the Google entry too if you don't want the yellow background colour on the Google homepage (which is Google's broken HTML code, by the way - they've specified the background colour incorrectly).
The JS bug is fixed in IBrowse 2.5, as Severin says - I know that doesn't really help anybody though . _________________ IBrowse, AmiSSL and Warp Datatype Developer |

Strange, it works with JS turned on, problems only when JS turned off and default spoofing. |

That works. Thanks. Now it looks old. LOL.

That might be best. Don't know how I could see Topaz 8 on a high res screen anymore.

That's funny, that combo works for me! |

That's good to know. Thanks for the tips. Yes I don't have IBrowse 2.5 so that doesn't help me.
I notice people are using the IBrowse name for another browser on OSX. Well file browser. Seems names from the Amiga world are stolen and used for other things. |
