Hi All

Very much inspired by Epsilon's excellent and informative blogs, i decided to be a little creative with my X5000 machine and create a blog more to give an insight for non users on this great machine.

I've made two posts at present to the blog and will be adding to this further on an as and when basis.

Address is:
Amigax5000

@outrun1978

Obviously I havent had time to read all of the text on your new blog BUT;

I do like the layout and content based on the very brief look Ive had so far. Its the type of blogs that will inspire people to get the most out of their hardware, and discover what software is available for the X5000 (and other Amiga branches).

Keep it up!

Now, Ill get back to reading the blog

@Overflow

Thanks for the positive feedback, hopefully I can try and keep things as simple as possible in the narrative and yes my main goal for the blog is to highlight to as many people as possible all the great things you can do with this machine.

Positive advocacy is very much needed for this machine

@thread

Thanks so much very much for your support in visiting my blog and for your comments thus far, I have had close to 500 visitors now in just a few days and it has given me lots of encouragement. I have updated the blog this evening looking at Joypads and joysticks which can be used with not just the X5000 but any OS4.1 machine.

Enjoy

Nice blog! As you're further along than me with your X5000, I look forward to picking up new tricks.

But might I suggest using SGrab for screenshots rather than photos? I can't make out the 2 in the joystick post.

@zzd10h @daveyw

Ive tried Sgrab for screenshots but i am mot happy with the quality of the screenshots if am honest, plus for some reason regards of if i grab in jpeg or iblm format wordpress doesnt recognise the file when i upload them.

At present am trying to use my Moto G Play Android phone for photos and then transfer it via USB to the X5000 and WordPress give you the chance to view the post on different possible formats before uploading and it seems ok when I post, but I'll check this on something like my Microsoft Surface and update later on tonight if needed.

As for Fastview I will try that one especially as it is Guillaume's little baby 😉 see another blog post already lined up as a result of this discussion

Thanks for the feedback, to be honest this is my first go at this type of thing so am still learning the ropes.

@daveyw

I have quickly logged on at work here this morning and accessed my blog using Google Chrome and from what i can see the pics look ok and are clear, so could this be a browser issue with Odyssey waiting to load the actual image in full and how it is rendered? Equally if you try changing the spoof as settings in Odyssey to I-Pad or Windows 10, will this make the image a bit clearer as i find when I am surfing Facebook for example, if you change the spoof as settings to one of these, images which appear fuzzy are suddenly clear and formatted a bit better

I will do some more tests both on Odyssey and Netsurf a little later on when I am back in front of the X5000 and report back, however I will also be looking at Fastview and maybe play around with Sgrab a bit more

Just in case you missed it : there is settngs in Sgrab , where you can choice file format as well as compression ratio. By default it is .jpg with 75% , so you can set it to 100% and quality will be 1:1. Or can just use .png , and quality will be 1:1 by default without needs to worry about compression.

In my case, i setup Sgrab running on the "printscr" key, via FKey commodoties (and make it starts from wbstartup). So, in end, once i need screenshot, i just press "prntscrn" button (just like on windows), and it create in ram: file called "screenshot.jpg" for me. If you need, i can give you exactly what line to put to FKey.

Just for information, FastView can be used with FKey too,

APPDIR:FastView SCREENGRAB GUI=NO

Sorry, I stop to derail your thread now

@daveyw

can you now try to view my page on your X5000 and see if there is any difference as i have replaced the photos of the screenshots showing Amigainput with actual screenshots taken using Fastview

@zzd10h

Guillaume, i am trying to set up FastView print screen using your APPDIR suggestion and the F keys but I am afraid being a bit of a novice sometimes, I would appreciate if you can guide me through what i need to click on and where.

Btw the picture quality is better via Fastview so I will be more than likely using this in future

@outrun1978

I was looking at it the other evening on my phone with Chrome, and you're right it was better than Odyssey, but still there was a very strong Moire pattern.

The screengrabs look better.

I too use SGrab, thru AllKeys rather than FKey. PrtSc grabs the screen, Shift PrtSc grabs a window and Control PrtSc copies the screen to clipboard. I recommend it over Fkey, because it does more than just keys - e.g., I have it mapped to my mouse's 5th button to cycle between screens, and if you have multimedia keys on your keyboard it can see those too. Very powerful little Commodity.

I have no opinion of Fastview vs SGrab. SGrab comes out of the box with OS4.1; I haven't migrated FastView from my A1XE yet, and mostly use it for viewing images in bulk and the odd tweak of a graphic where ArtEffect or ImageStudio isn't required.

@TrevorDick

I think it's a well done to you and the rest of the A-Eon for the new machines, personally I haven't been more interested in my Amiga hobby since I first got my A1200 back in 1994 😀
