I think a two book approach would be best. Basic then advanced. Sure, it would be nice to cover everything in a single book, but then we would have to wait longer for the release of anything and more advanced users would simply not need half the book!

Or perhaps after a basic/intermediate book has been written, the next book released is more a reference guide, covering things in a less step-by-step approach and more a 'man' (a la *nix) guide?

I don't know enough to write any of the book myself, but if you need a proof reader, I do read quite a lot and my command of the English language is relatively good so I am happy to help with editorial duties if required.

I was kinda wondering, sortof as a "chapter 13", if a tutorial on how to make a semi-advanced text editor would be a nice idea? It'll sort of put all the previous chapters "into perspective" and absolute idiot beginners like me can see how it all ties together and makes sense in a fully functioning programme?

BTW, YES!!!!!! I would defo buy this book, especially if the "tutorial chapter" could be included, as it would give me a HUGE insentive to buy the AmigaOS4.1-running mtoherboard.

The "current" Amiga programming books I have are:

Mastering Amiga C - Paul Overaa

Programmer's Guide to the Amiga - Robert Peck

Inside the Amiga with C - John Thomas Berry

Amiga C for Beginners - Dirk Shaun

Compute's Amiga Programmer's Guide

The most useful thing in all of them were the examples, rather than the explanations.

The proposed book will be tutorial based - lots of small, practical problems in the early chapters, leading up to meatier programs as the chapters progress. There will be an element of reference material, but the autodocs, RKMs are Hyperion's responsibility.

The proposed book will be printed by a local printer or by a print-on-demand service. Clearly, it may not be the same quality as a "professional" product, but I think we need something, especially if we are attracting back new users (with the X1000 etc).

I'd actually be willing to buy two, if that would help.

I would be very interested in purchasing such a book. If it becomes available, which I hope, I would gladly buy one copy.

Ah, that's a real oldie, I have it too Most of the things covered there are obsolete now, perhaps with the exception of Exec.

If/when I get an OS4 machine I'd probably buy this.

Would it not be better to split this into 3 books, basic, intermediate and advanced?
I doubt I am ever going to write a driver for instance......at least I don't think so.

@yoodoo2

Yes it sounds good to me. It would be the first printed guide with dataypes! That I'm aware of.

But where is the advanced chapter on interrupts and MMU programming? I can help with that, well the first part.

@yoodoo2

I will buy one definitively! SDK documentation is a bit short so this will be great add on. Personally I'd go for both printed and electronic version.

@yoodoo2
I asked for this on Amigans months ago, saying that what is truly needed is a printed programming guide, not a godzillion (and outdated) Amiga guide pages (quite confusing).
A MUST IMHO!

Hell yes, I've had a brief starter in C but that was many years ago. Fishing around through various RKMs relating to OS3.x (and previous), supplementing with OS4.x updates, supplementing with several different sources, etc is not my idea of a good learning resource.

I'd say this is needed, and with the upcoming X1000 (all hail TrevorDick!) now is the perfect time: I would definitely buy a copy.

@yoodoo2

Both the price an contents sound good so I would buy this book if it was available.

I would also be interested in a separate similar book on Hollywood as I think it would really benefit from its own book rather than a slightly out of place chapter in a C programming book.
