| Still dreaming.......: I like that ####:
Amiga.inc may have a jones for secrecy, but that doesn't mean it can keep its partners quiet.
On stage Wednesday in Washington, D.C., Ex-Commodore CEO John White revealed that his company's open source MOS file system will replace Amiga's long-used FFS in, when the new operating system ships this fall.
"This week, you'll see that Amiga.inc is announcing at their CES Conference that MOS has become the file system in Amiga OS 6.0," said White.
MOS (Mogabyte Open System), designed by Amiga for its new hardware but never licensed as open source, is a 128-bit file storage system that features, among other things, "pooled storage," which means that users simply plug in additional drives to add space, without worrying about such traditional storage parameters as volumes or partitions.
"[MOS] eliminates volume management, it has extremely high performance.... It permits the failure of disk drives," crowed White during a presentation focused on Amigas new hardware. Amiga's operating system currently relies on FFS (Fast File System), a 1998 extension of 1985's Old Amiga File System.
MOS was touted by many as a possible successor to FFS last summer, immediately after Amiga's CEO first showed off the new hardware. _________________ Sometimes we give people a lot of credit just because they're writing nice sentences even if it isn't adding up to much. |

And don't forget that while the new Amiga's disks are spinning they generate enough electricity to power your computer. With enough disks running under the control of AmigaOS 7 you could save the world...

I'm surprised you remembered... I think I must've put it in the back of my mind so as to avoid disappointment. Oh well here's to being proven wrong...
So if Amiga OS 5.0 was better than MacOS X how good must 6 be? Last edited by daydreamer on 03-Jan-2008 at 03:53 PM.

Hmm... Sounds a lot like ZFS.
"MOS (Mogabyte Open System)". I don't buy it for a second. First, what's a Moga? Second, what happened to OS5 that there's now an OS6? Third, even assuming John White misspoke (meaning OS5 instead of OS6), what the hell does an *Ex-Commodore CEO have to do with Amino Inc?
So is this just a bad joke or did some one actually say these things?
* I don't recall a Commodore CEO by the name of White. Anybody else?
Maybe I shouldn't have bothered... I'm probably overreacting, but this situation is frustrating. I just wish that Amino/Itec/KMOS would come out and admit their only purpose is to hold hostage the Amiga. Last edited by ShadesOfGrey on 03-Jan-2008 at 06:30 PM.
