| So how many are there? Eyetech must have surpassed 1500 sales by now. µA1 seems to be a roaring success (relativly speaking).
When comparing this site with many other Amiga forums this site seems alot more populated.
The Pegasos users often brag about +2000 sales. But these can't be all MorphOS users. Otherwise almost none of them visits community sites. Seems to me there are less than 500 active MorphOS users out there. AmigaOS seems to grow faster than MorphOS now. But maybe there are somewhat more developers of serious software for MorphOS? Hopefully this will change in time as AmigaOS users grow.

| a realistic number of a1 owners would be around 2400
Remember that even the old SE and XE sold well over 800 units. _________________ If you need music for your productions, or graphics for your creations, feel free to contact me. also check out my music at http://www.contrazt.no/records.html |

I think somewhere between 1500 and 2000 A1 users. Probably closer to 2000 than 1500.

The Pegasos is a Linux platform now. Buck dumped MOS some time ago.

| Thel uA1 has certainly been selling well, given all the threads on here recently - who said that the platform was dead
A while ago I wrote that I was learning php so that I could set up an "Amiga Counter". Well, I haven't had the time to finish it, but if anyone's any good at php/MySQL (we're talking extremely simple coding here) and wants to finish it off, then PM me and I'll be able to start gathering a definitive number _________________

The Pegasos was always meant to be multi-platform, since Genesi realized long ago (as Alan Redhouse has also said) that there are not enough "amiga-platform" users left to support hardware development and sales on their own.
There is still a quite active MorphOS community, and MorphOS development seems to be continuing even though Genesi is not directly subsidizing it as before. (If you read the IRC log related to this, you'll know the apparent demise of MorphOS wasn't a Bill Buck decision so much as the result of internal disagreements on how things should go.) Time will tell how this will work out, just as time will show how the AmigaOne sales curve will go once OS4 is officially released and the remaining enthusiasts make their purchases. In short, there are pluses and minuses on both sides. -- gary_c_________________ zukakakina.com - themes.tikiwiki.org |

| Had my A1 G4 since Aug '04 Used a A3000 before that. The next question is how many older Amigas are out there? What about the ones used for weather balloon launchs from Canaveral and the ones still used in small TV stations for titling. Are these applications still in use? Love this machine. Who ever heard of a Dad begging his daughter to have the boys over to her room to tune her XP? I hate that box sooo much.

Er well, I have an SE myself, and becoming more and more pleased with it as OS4 s/w comes out for it that prevents me from using Linux! I'm eager to see a rabbit... eeer, rapid application development tool that uses a less compicated language than C, so that I can contribute in programming!

I'd say we are probably closer to 3K now... but Wegster & Lylehaze might dispute that as they cant even throw their money to a dealer 1!!

You know you people shouldnt talk about things you dont know about
MorphOS is very much Alive and Active. Almost every day new software comes out on www.morphos-net.de. Its amazing. People's fetish with "Bill Buck" is rather boring by now. The morphos developers decide what happens with morphos. It has Always been this way. Genesi did provide alot of funding for the MOS project however.
I'm glad to see the numbers of A1 users rising out there. However, I can hardly call it a "smashing success" as someone called it. Also, the fact that there are countless threads here about people waiting 6+months for A1 and them not being availabe are not good signs of market strength. I'm afraid without *proper* linux support and a dramatic price decrease the A1 will forever remain a very small niche product...
There also seems to be some legal issues concerning OS4 and Kmos/Ainc so that future is not so certain either. The moral of the story is developing alternative operating systems is very difficult and hard to sustain without serous investment. What has Kmos/Ainc done for Hyperion? What financial support? None AFAIK. That is not good...

| Hmmm, why this thread was polluted with MorphOS, which is irrelevant? About the numbers - I can say in my country here are no PegasOS owners, but here are AmigaOne owners (me).

Indeed. Is that the reason why you keep talking about AmigaOS4 without knowing anything about it ?_________________ Thomas, the kernel guy

Have to agree with you (relatively speaking) on that one. New developers are joining up all the time now. The real trick will be getting non-fan devs to join up but that is a bit further off yet. In any case, a very good start.
Hardware wise, things have improved from the humble beginnings but there is room for improvement. We're on our 3rd generation already (SE->XE->Micro) and I'm sure the 4th will be even better.
Software wise, 4.0 is shaping up to be a nice stable baseline on which to build 4.1 and beyond. Just need to get it out the door sooner rather than later._________________ ExecSG Team Lead |

Well, chain-q did offer to port the sublime FPC in return for an A-1 on this thread. |
