This is probably a general reference to AI protecting their IP quite vigorously recently. (Wayne and others have commented on this)

This -could- mean simply using intermediaries to facilitate communication and have nothing to do with the connection we make between hearing the word "lawyer" and assuming the word "lawsuit" to also be implied by use of -that- word. I agree, though, that the wording here could be improved.
