I got this from Bill McEwen several days ago, it is about OS5 :
I asked him to make it public since it does not contain sensitive info:

Quote:
We are putting the finishing touches on our public information release
concerning the new OS and we are making some final technology decisions with
regard to technical releases.

The promised information is coming, and I will make sure that I provide you
with the requested data.

Thank you again for taking the time to write to me.

Kindest regards,

Bill McEwen

@wajdy

it will probably say that they won't allow the CSPPC/BPPC version of AmigaOS4 to be sold.

@wajdy

!!! Warning !!!
Guys don't misread his message here, they are putting "finishing touches"
on an announcement of an upcoming OS.

Don't expect anything to come out of this. But LOL it seems they are happy about
getting mails though, their reply almost looks as an apology because "he" (wayjdy)
wasted his time to write Amiga Inc an e-mail.

They are hard at work on an announcement....

ya, I can believe that the announcement machine is still alive and kicking, but I don't care about announcements from these guys.

Lol.
This is "don't buy OS4 for Classic" cuz OS5 is around the corner FUD.
Oh and it's better than MacOS X...let's not forget that.

[...waits for a 750CL-based PPC accelerator for his CD32 to run OS4-4-Classic...]

I wonder how long it will take to put the "finishing touches" on the announcement? He doesn't actually give any indication as to how long we're going to have to wait to find out what OS5 is. I'm actually curious as to what this "better than Mac OS X" Amiga OS 5 is. That's a really tall claim to live up to.

Amiga, Inc's job as a company is to bring a compelling product to market. Okay in the Amiga that compelling is likely the next version of AmigaOS and keep the hobbiest nature alive. (Of course we'd all love to see the Amiga take over the world) So far AI has failed. They can blame whoever but the job as the owners resides on their shoulders.

An announcement about an upcoming announcement to me is a waste. The proof's in the pudding let's have some pudding!

It's a qualifier so that it doesn't have to be better than Windows.

Maybe at the same time he might also consider encouraging the multitude of beta testers to come forward to vouch for this projects existence and progress.

And no Bill, Ack doesn't count!

@wajdy

It's where annoying, that’s what I think of it, way are there no OS5 developers in the forum, way has no AmigaOS5 been shown on any public event, and way are there no spec list to read about it, way is there no information on it on there web page, I think there are tow possibilities.

1. Some one is speeding some false rumour.
(Unlikely jugging from Bill’s Q&A sessions on Amiga.org)

2. Bill Mc Even is telling a lie again.

It will at least be funny to watch how they are going to present
the specs for the new OS. The specs of course have to "beat"
OSX specs. So that's one h**ll of a corner they painted them
selves into.

Personally I suspect he eats up how far he can take these PR manipulations and probably gets quite the chuckle when he reads threads over here. Look how brazen he has gotten more recently with stuff like "better than Apple OS X", "everyone is getting paid" in the Kent affair, and new Amigas Summer 2007 (with nothing having come). Let alone how many times he gets away in general with repeating whats coming, yet never needing to produce anything. Yet still some take him seriously. If he is getting the chuckles I suspect he is it makes me wonder, does he laugh the most at those who still believe him I wonder?

Not much of a corner. Because they can just come up with a new story and a new product later. (Lets not forget AA2 for instance). And there will still be those who believe. The man is posting Open Letters that are ridiculous (IMHO), he is saying stuff that mainstream tech news sites have picked up and laughed about and still he proceeds. It would seem that he feels emboldened that he can say whatever he likes and the bottom line is he is right, because its a privately held company.

The new Amigas were coming despite the court case, then they weren't because of the court case. OS5 can be painted to suffer some setback whenever is convienent should they desire and they can resurect it later if they want. The faithful will still hear the call, even if the numbers become slightly smaller each year. Its still enough folks to have an audience for written speechs for another 5 years or so methinks.

@fairlanefastback

What I think is unbelievable that does this PR stunts while being in court battling Hyperion for the right to the OS4 source code, and he did the ACK amusement just before the court case, he really does bad job as PR manager; what he does is create public knowledge about Amiga Inc and AmigaOS exists, at most impropriate time, any interested in AmigaOS will find out how thing really are a few clicks/Google’s away from Amiga.com, it does not take scientist to know some thing is not right.
