So have I, I also developed on it, and have extensive experience from earlier PPCs and approximately the speed of the PS3s 3.2Ghz In-Order Cell is about equivalent to a 1.6Ghz single core G5. Which in turn is about (actually a bit slower on some code) equivalent in everyday usage to a slightly slower G4 (1.42Ghz is probably a pretty good match).
OK, cool, I can see that. I thought that the CPU performance was similar to my 1.33GHz G4 Mac mini. The extra RAM and 3D acceleration in the mini helped speed up the desktop/apps a lot though.
EDIT: This is a comparison when running Yellow Dog 6 on both the mini and the PS3.

Also, the Cell is not dual core. it uses a technique called Hyperthreading (basically a duplicate set of registers inside the PPC) to reuse some wasted cycles.
Yeah, I figured as much. I hadn't heard of any dual core Cells.
I do like the concept of the Cell though. I just wish there was an OS that could really take advantage of it.
