The PowerPC part isn't multicore; but it's hardware threaded- considering they both use the same cache I assume this would let you get away without SMP adaptions in the system,
However you do not get away without SMP adaptions if you want to use the SPUs- they are separate processors and require synchronization just like another PPC would.
