@AmigaBlitter

I have seen a lot of similar comments in other places too (can't remember where so cant quote) thats why i like the idea of cell.

If a complete cell system could be produced for $1500 or less with the amiga name (even if just in the OS) i think that more than anything would get good publicity and attract people back to the amiga even if just a bunch of former programmers looking for something to play with, it would be a fantastic geek toy and once the programmers are playing with it then apps will appear (maybe not the ones we are looking for, porting open office wouldn't be a likely thing for they to do). I think it was stated somewhere that adding cell SPU support in Amiga OS was possible and maybe not to difficult.

The same system could also be sold as a low end workstation although it would probably have to run linux for that.

Trouble is, looking at current prices for cell hardware other than PS3 (a PCI-E card with a full PowerXcell 8i and all support chips) $6000 seems a more likely price :(

Looks like PS3 is the only affordable cell system around, i would buy one today if it ran OS4.x, the argument that its not a real computer is dumb, it has a cpu, ram and a hard disk like any other computer. the only real argument against ps3 is the closed nature of the hardware, lack of expandability and inability to make use of the GPU but as a computer for running a hobby OS (not my words, used by many others here though and mostly true) it would be perfect, would expand the user base and may make a future more expandable cell based system a possibility. not my choice though, ill take whatever option im given if i can afford it and do without if i cant.
