| Based on this: Atwww.browserchoice.eu the text for Chrome says. "Google Chrome. A fast new browser. Made for everyone."
Everyone? So where is the AOS/MOS/AROS versions?
And quite frankly, when will Apple be forced to do a similar thing?

Steve Jobs will probably claim he is a descendant of Hammurabi, and hence claim he got patents on the code of law Then he will sue EU for stealing his patent on the code of law Last edited by Caveman on 03-Mar-2010 at 04:06 AM.

Well, when Timberwolf comes, that will propably cover our needs, so Chrome is not needed.
The interesting thing with this is to see what effect it will have on the smaller browsers (smaller shares than Opera/Safari).

Apple has done it allready, in form of webkit (base of chrome , OWB)...
And pure chrome port is not possible... need MP, and other security stuff... |

Google does some innovative things.
Better not hope for AOS4 port, they might actually do it, just for the kicks. _________________ - KimmoK // For freedom, for honor, for AMIGA // // Thing that I should find more time for: CC64 - 64bit Community Computer? |

webkit is not an apple product. its originally a fork from khtml and just yet another product that apple has used based on gnu/bsd licensing.

Lets face it, Apple have put most of the work into it for the last few years :)
A native port of Chromium would be lovely. But have you seen how much work it took to create the OS X and Linux ports? Admittedly the codebase is a lot more portable as a result, but I just don't think we've got the resources to do it. Feel free to prove me wrong!
Out of interest, does anyone know if any of the really fast JS engines actually run on PowerPC? I have a feeling their JITs are all for x86, x86-64 and ARM cores. Last edited by gnarly on 03-Mar-2010 at 11:45 AM.

Yeah - precisely! I am also annoyed by certain advertising spots on TV that promise: "If you use our product your system will be xy% faster..." My A4kPPC is my "Personal Computer" - so where is the version of that soft to increase the speed of my PC? _________________ Ciao

I personally would not even want it anyways due to privacy reasons. |

No, not needed. But if someone starts a port, I wouldn't discourage them either. The more stuff we have, the more useful AOS is. Though I do strongly prefer Firefox. I haven't used Chrome since it was first released for a coupel days. It failed on some web sites that Konqueror and Safari failed on, no suprise since they derive from the same engine, but I haven't looked at it again since. Firefox works great where I go._________________ All glory to the Hypnotoad! |

same here with chrome and firefox.
i think, if the ''war'' of browsers in win/linux is good for the end users in general why can't be good for amiga users too? _________________ A3040 AmigaOS3.9 A1200 060/BPPC AmigaOS3.9/4.0 Sam440ep AmigaOS4.1.2 Pegasos2/G3 AmigaOS4.1.2/Morphos2.7/Debian6.0/OpenSuse11.1 MacMini/G4 1.5 MorphOS 2.7/OSX 10.5.8

| I am not happy with chrome ... yes it's VERY fast, but I got problems with Ebay at work. Because of that I uninstalled it and it messed up all the links on my desktop. Whatever I tried, every link asked me over and over again with what program I wanted to use to open them.
I would put the efforts in porting a browser that is already mature on another platform like firefox/timberwolf and not in a browser that still knows problems on the platform it was originally designed for.

Hehe - I just sent them a mail asking either to offer GoogleChrome for AmigaOS 3.9/WarpOS 16.1 or AmigaOS 4.0 classic, or to correct their statement "For all.". _________________ Ciao

| We've already got one WebKit based browser (OWB). Frankly, at present I'd rather see more work put into that than starting another one.
