it's really amazing that after twenty-eight years since the announcement of the amiga 1000 there are still so many enthusiasts of the platform, its hardware, its follow-ons, and its derivatives. i know of no other platform that has lived so far beyond what anyone could have reasonably imagined would have been the end in 1994 with the death of commodore.

amidst all of the in-fighting, the scams, the noise, and the drama, there still exists a few thousand of us, still clinging to what we all know to be the most enjoyable computing platform alive.

take a moment today as the amiga begins the second day of its twenty-sixth year to just pause and enjoy what you have, be it a classic 3000T, minimig, SAM, pegasos, imica, or whatever. give it a hug. for whatever flavor you enjoy, to quote trevor: 'let's keep this party going.'

happy birthday, amiga.

edit: i started this thread a couple of years back, but wanted to update it today, july 23rd, 2013, as we celebrate twenty-eight years of the amiga.

@eliyahu

I just gave my sam440-ep flex a big hug.
I used to have an A200HD back in '92, then life took me somewhere else for nearly 20 years.

Today, like you, I'm enjoying my OS4.1 update 2.

Long live the Amiga!

@eliyahu

The anniversary was yesterday? Now that's really weird!

Yesterday I was at a wedding party in a town I had never visited before. Later at night it got too noisy there so I went to the nearby park for a lonely walk. Out of a sudden, and for no particular reason, I started thinking about my 21 years with the Amiga. I was thinking about what it meant to me, about the people I met during the years, about the values I learnt to appreciate: creativity, independence, friendship.

Getting old perhaps But I'm really glad to have been an Amigan. The wedding party is now over; the Amiga party is not.

I wonder if there are more Amiga users than C64? Seems like the only other platform in with a shout although...you`d really have to include Apple to be fair. Well, I suppose you`d have to even include the IBM PC!

Been at least that long for me, don't think about it too much. I do love to party,

After 26 years one couldn`t note we would probably be 5.0 by now,
if OS development wasn`t stopped 1994-2001 at least

Glad to see "Its alive" in 2011, congrats to all people involved!

And someone only play games in Amiga, now I'm playing to Battle of the Wesnoth and sometimes to 1941 Extreme Deluxe, instead of new games of 3D on PCs and videoconsoles.

Never, ever stop doing that! It may cause a sudden death.

Wisdom after being an Amigan for, what, 15 years?

2 questions:

1: Is it 'milspec'?
2: Will it blend?

I've done rather a lot in my life and just recently (just under 4 months ago) became a father to a lovely little girl.

I got to thinking about the sequence of events of my life that brought little Samantha in to existence:

- Samantha exists because: I met, fell in love with, and married her mother.
- I met my wife because: I moved to Hannover, Germany.
- I moved to Hannover, Germany because: I was getting bored in the Australian branch of the company I work for and wanted to move within the company to a bigger branch.
- I got the job at this company in the Australian office because: A friend recommended me.
- I met that friend because: We were both in the Sydney Amiga Users Group.
- I was in the Sydney Amiga User Group because: I was a long time Amiga user.
- I was a long time Amiga User because: Amiga was for so many years simply the best platform, bar none.

So, therefore: My daughter Samantha exists because Amiga is great

I am here and I am what I am thanks to a precise answer I gave my father, when I was 10, instead of the other option. "What would you like to get for Christmas, a photo camera or a computer?". And now I am talking to you while fixing servers for a big company, instead of shotting photos to supermodels in a privee.
