Good to see that they are still on track and developing new projects, also that I have no idea if this is be Amiga related or not. Let's wait for News coming from Pianeta Amiga.

I am wondering what would be their potential without amiga, i mean as a standaloe product it is so expensive to have something like boards when you compare them with intel/amd hardweres.

| @TheDaddy Well, a PowerPC-based NAS, and a mini-PCI graphics card... Maybe i'm mistaken, but i think no one will be surprised, if the NAS "accidentally" will have a mini-PCI connector on board... And there you go, yet another "Amiga" hardware.
To be honest, it's a nice idea, as the NAS - being basically an end-user HW - could sell a lot better than an embedded board. Not to mention that by installing wifi and other stuff into the (theoretical) mini-PCI slot could expand it's functionality a lot. And you can also make an OS4 hardware out of it, with no effort. Really good idea and concept. If i'm not mistaken, of course.
Hell, depending on the price, even i might consider buying it, even only as NAS. I was looking for a NAS already, but only ARM based stuff is on the market. Not good enough, for an m68k/PowerPC fan. _________________ MorphOS, classic Amiga, demoscene, and stuff "When a bridge is not enough, build a Viaduct!" I would like to know what high performance means in this sentence.I hope, that if they intend to use also as Amiga motherboard, that it have >=1 GHZ_________________ No PowerPC, No Fun Make Amiga Great Again |

I am guessing it is high data transfer rate capable. Like this one: http://www.starvedia.com/products_NAS101.html
I would suggest another product to ACube that is: Mini NVR NVR's are very expensive and certainly a cheap passive cooling NVR will sell like hell.
The Question Is: Does it have to be Linux based? Can't we have AOS4 based NAS/NVR ?

Would be nice. Amd would certainly avoid all those PC filesystem problems we have. Perfect solution! |

Not necessarily as long as they run the whole thing I guess (pianeta).
Anyway I can barely catch up with the recent hw news, man! First is PowerPC 'Pegasos 3' project anounced at mozone, then this... Another piece of information I've got from my private sources is that MorphOS seems to be partially launching on other Apple's G4 equippement...
Man... I'm in the middle of removal but as long as I'm out there (tomorrow), I gotta take some speed to catch up with the recent Amiga news...
Just check that out, man,
- Pegasos 2 supports AmigaOS - iMica AROS-dedicated hw, dual launch (Win or Lin) - MacMini MOS-supported (any bets? mine is 1 Dec) - New PPC board announced on MOZone recently (although Efika becomes retired meanwhile) - Than this
Hereby I declare 2009 as Amiga HW Year!

I'm just happy to see that a company interested in Amiga is showing positive activity in general.
Good to see healthy signs from such a firm. _________________ Pegasos2 G3 running AOS 4.1 and MorphOS 2.0 Amikit user, tinkering with Icaros VM (AROS) EFIKA owner Amiga 1200 |

You could be right about the reference design being the basis for their NAS product. The 460EX goes up to 1 GHz, which is more than enough for a NAS (the single drive NAS that I have has an ARM9 processor running at approx 400 MHz, IIRC).

I see they are also talking about the "Eye Motion: a mini-pci graphic and audio board featuring a Silicon Motion embedded GPU".
Interestingly enough the Pismo reference design also has a mini-pci connector. |

Hmm, I wonder how thick the whole assembly (board + miniPCI card) would be...

| Sounds cool, I'll grab one if there's nothing better out at the time. :) But guys.. bear in mind that after the hardware is completed, then tested, and bug fixed, it will take months to port OS4 to it and fully debug it... so if you're still thinking of getting an OS4 box, the Sam Flex is still the way to go for now IMO.

As far as we know the hardware could be fully bug fixed and ready to go.
There is also no need to have it ready to get OS4 ported if its based on the Pismo design, just send hyperion one of those to port to until the final hardware is ready.
could be interesting if this thing does run AmigaOS, hope they make it in enough numbers so that its cheap enough that i can afford to join the party _________________

It is good to know the new projects from ACube and that they continue support and develop the future Amiga hardware. |

| @Dandy Don't discourage yourself have you seen the size of the Pismo? It is a mini PC basically.
This could very well be some form of portable Amiga compatible hardware.
