So, since this Amiga X1000 intro a couple weeks back, I have been going nuts reliving my youth and thinking about getting into this whole Amiga scene. Been reading web sites, asking questions, and just plain having fun. Basically rekindling the days of being an Atari fan and being hyped for an alternative computer platform that not the whole world was into. This X1000 is something I plan on buying to get back into that kind of atmosphere for my computing lifestyle.

So, I decided to start collecting Amigas now. Wife thinks I am nuts but what is new. Normally when I do something, I go all out. So, ONE OF EACH FLAVOR OF AMIGA please. hehehe.

Even though it is not the best choice for compatibility and all that, I found a very clean Amiga 1000 system. I figure since I will be getting this X1000, I need the 1st Amiga model made so I have enroute a nice 1000 system. Can't wait!

In time I will get more but for now, I received my 3 issues of Amiga Future and have an old classic Amiga 1000 coming to me. All in just this short time since they announced this X1000 for 2010.

I am on this roller coaster and holding on tight. yuuuuuhhhhhhhh!

tj

*** I finally set my Avatar so I can be recognized as that crazy Amiga Amishman here on the Amigaworld.net community ***

@MacSociety

A1000, originally known as Amiga (without number)... with old checkmark logo and so pretty design.

Congratulations! (in today view, A1000 is not very user friendly - Kickstart on the floppy disk, 256 kB Chip RAM, buggy WB etc., but it is the computer that started it all!)

Remember to look inside the case, and see if Mitchie's paw print is there...

@ChrisH

I never read about that. I take it the dog and all other Amigans that had a hand in making this system have their names inside the case?

The case come off easy on these? Today, I have no clues of what I am getting. Other than it is the first of the neat Amigas.

Looks like it's in great shape too.

Hey, did you subscribe to Amiga Future? Are you in the US? I want that magazine but don't know how they will get it to me.

I should just move to Europe! Amiga is there, all the cool 3d mags and ImagineFX is out there. They have health care. It's a no brainer.

@tommywright

Yes, I live in USA and received my 3 copies. 80, 81, and 82. I started reading them last night. Great mags!!!

Cost me $43 for all 3 delivered. I think I will be subscribing per year now. I purchased the 3 from AmigaKit and they arrive fast. Less than a week from Europe to me in California via mail.

Welcome to the society!
Nice looking gear you'll be having there! The moment i saw the 1080 monitor i knew you would be from the States or thereabouts! LOL As about the signatures every A1000 has 'em in it. No, the top lid isn't so difficult to take off. All the screws that release it are at the bottom. Just take extra care while pulling the top cover off, so as to "unclip" it from the sides. Don't exercise any violence on that beauty! I have 3 of em and hope to get more when possible! Nice start you did my friend...

@DAX

Yes, it comes with some software and magazines. I think the gentleman I am buying it from basically sold off his whole system. I will know Friday what I have in total. I may have paid too much but at the same time, feel I am getting a super clean system so it was worth it to me.

Time will tell.

So, where about are these clips? Maybe you can elaborate on cover removal so I don't screw it up. Most cases I play with just slide off but if there is a clip holding it in place, give me the run-down.

I will have to show my wife the names so maybe she can feel apart of the Amiga story also.

Make sure to have speakers hooked up when you turn it on to hear the self test noise. The A1000 is the only Amiga to do that.

@amije

Even if that were the case, I am afraid I am too attached to my A1000 and the memories, oh those memories.

@MacSociety

Wll, if your not careful you may start looking at the hard to find expansions for it, such as the 1mb RAM expansion, or the 1060 sidecar. hahahaha.

Cheers

@Gebrochen

I sold mine years ago to another fan. He still has it AFAIK. When I sold it, it had an Oktagon SCSI card with 2MB (or was it 8?) on board, a 3.5" HDD (don't remember how big), and a switch to flip between 1.3 and 3.1 Kickstart ROMs. All fitted entirely inside the case, of course.

Heaven, just as long as you didn't need to do anything challenging with it.
