OS4 and PPC boards

The final version is supposed to be out, and the s/w company has been working the latest fix for a long time now.
Given that now we cannot buy any new hardware now, but Hyperion can have incomes by selling the OS4 to new customers (the owners of PPC boards), why hasn`t put that final version in the market? I`m sure there would be many AMiGA owners awating to buy the new OS.

P.S. Sorry for asking such a question, it`s been a long time awating for this piece of s/w, and I was really happy reading the news just before the holidays.
I didn`t follow the various senarios and speculations, so I`m unaware of what`s been going on, but I`d like to know why this delay on the OS4-classic (existing h/w )?

Me too.
This endless wait! The classic hardware lives on. Even
Amigaone is dead. I don't intend to get one of these.
Mac has already jettisoned the PPC.

Hyperion needs to see where the market is now before
that even dissolves away. I would buy OS4. I just bought
a new A4000T because I had amassed a long line
of old software. With an Amigaone there is not so much
functionality. I'll live with OS 3.5 (yes why 3.9) a Mediator
and I'm thinking of a PPC accelerator but why if there is no OS4.
Yes build PPC boards for the Classic series. They go for
a thousand bucks on Ebay - Used. That may be
more doable than a PC from the ground up. Ask Eyetech.

Then maybe OS4 may be usable. I was shocked and relieved to
see the final version too. Final for a few as it turns out.
Had an Amiga in 85 and learned on an A1000. The Amiga community
is still learning. Learning to wait.
Need someone with smarts like the people at Apple.
They have overcome. Why not Amiga.

Yes why, I think Amiga Inc lacks creativity.

@yoodoo2

Thanks for the quick response, though I needed some sort of a resume on what``s been going on all this time. I don`t have the luxury to read endless threads, with various opinions/discussions on this topic.

The only one I`ve found by Friedens is this, but there should be more precise reports, or they could enlighten us why can`t we have a s/w developed for such a long time on existing documented h/w...

I`m looking forward using OS4 on my CSPPC or finally a new AMiGA (I won`t hold my breath regarding the latter).

I hate to say it, but I agree. Adam (ACK) has made so many announcements of upcoming demo's, showings, and forthcoming announcements by a certain date, just to cancel out at the last minute. His products actually have the greatest appeal for me, but it's become a bit like the boy who cried wolf.

I thought that he could finally redeem his work in the eyes of the community when he made that last statement of an announcement coming within the first week of January, but it just turned out like all the others before it. I'm still holding out hope that he will get his projects completed soon, but if not, I'll likely be buying a SAM board once it gets OS4.

@Cass

From what I have read, the classic is the version they are working on. Apparently the drivers are a bit of work, but I would expect that to be out when it is done. I think they are working hard to make it happen soon.

Now when OS4 is done, only Sam team announce some news others are very quiet.
Its a shame...
No one from Amiga sites ask them for status of their project..
Do you remember of pressure on Hyperion?
And now no one can ask them for status .. Amigaworld guys, can you?

@Comi

No one is saying anything because of the public flogging they will get for announcing vapour stuff.

We have had more than 10 years of vapour announcements, one after the other. The few companies/developers remaining are keeping their mouths shut until they can actually ship some product and somehow acquire the holy OS4 license.

So far to date no one outside of Eyetech has been able to do this. It has been 5 years since the Eyetech license and as far as I know not a single company or individual has been successful in negociating a license to ship any product with OS4 installed.

As I've stated before there could be many reasons for this...this is just speculation but it could be:

1) Amiga Inc. doesn't want to give any licenses to anyone
2) None of the proposals so far have met Amiga Inc.'s requirements
3) No one is willing to meet Amiga Inc.'s terms
4) No one has been able to demonstrate hardware that can run OS4 (to thus satisfy Amiga Inc.'s conditions)
5) No one is really seriously interested in getting a license (because perhaps they don't or can't meet the terms Amiga Inc. wants)

Who knows.

BTW I just saw a pig fly by outside my window... LOL!
