| I managed to get an interview with Jonathan Potter for my blog, and got some answers that perhaps is interresting to other "classic" Dopus users. I used Dopus until it left the two-pane classic look, and could never find its equal on PC :/
If you are interresting in reading mor, please visit : Jonathan Potter, creator of Directory Opus

Quote:
System-log : Can you please develop “Directory-Opus-10-classic-two-pane-with-buttons-on-the-bottom-edition” for Windows?
Jonathan : No :)

**UPDATE**
Because of many questions and a lot of feedback from the readers of Amigaworld, I have created a "part 2" of the interview with Jonathan Potter.

Thanks for the interview.
On PC I use PCopus. If you can't find it on the web, I can send you the archive. _________________ Philippe 'Elwood' Ferrucci Sam460 1.10 Ghz AmigaOS 4 betatester Amiga Translator Organisation |

| I have never used PCopus so can't comment on it but often used Total Commander in the past (used to be called Windows Commander). It has the classic 2 panes look as well.

Yes, using Total Commander my self as my filemanager. But must admit that "Worker" recommended by opi was looking very nice! |

| Thx for the interview.
DOpus 4 is on my top 5 of what made Amiga special
I never realy like DOpus 5 and up. Even if I bought it at the time.
Now I'm enjoying DOpus 4 with AROS.
Lovely program.

Ah, cool. I used to use that years ago. I had no idea it was still under development.

| Dopus Magelan II was the best file manager i ever used Actually, i can't understand why people complained about switching to a multi-window environment from Dopus4 to Dopus5 because it was incredible configurable. So, you *could* configure it in a way, that it looked like Dopus4 and could be used in the same limited way: 2 windows: left and right and at the bottom the button rows ..
Although, "Filer" is cool on AmigaOS4, Dopus5 was simply amazing.
regrads, nexus

I used DOpus5 as WB replacement and liked it a lot. Never understood the complaints about it. Maybe it was down to the fact that I ran an 68040 with PicassoIV and more RAM than was ever used (DKB 3128 memoryboard). _________________ Back home... |

can u explain me why? Especially, as Dopus5 could be used in the way Dopus4 was used? Well, i guess, there's no point to argue about dead products _________________ dye 'em black! |

I think the main reason is because they never learned it properly and didn't change the crappy default settings. They just didn't bother or had certain preconception about it or it wasn't available as easily illegally as old Dopus4 or they gave final judgement before it had matured enough (pre Magellan2 versions had flaws I admit).
And when obtained illegally you didn't get the manuals (hardly even english version of the program), which made the learing a LOT faster as it is very feature rich. Without it you can't even notice all the cool features it offers (I know because it took a year before I bought my legal copy).
I was like that a long time too. I was just claiming DOpus4 is the best and DOpus5 is confusing etc. But when a friend had told long enough about it to me I finally gave it couple weeks test run with just released Magellan2. In that time I just grew into it and there was no way I'd returned to DOpus4 anymore. Ever. I'm still using Magellan2 on all my systems :)
And it was surely made for WB replacement mode. I can imagine it could be a bit clumsy as a separate app on own screen. It also misses too many its desktop enhancement features if used separately. But as a WB replacement.. ahhh... who needed to wait some minor OS upgrades like 3.5 and 3.9. Those were nothing when they finally appeared when you already had upgraded your OS with Magellan2 long before. Just feeling sorry for others who waited major official OS enhancements without getting them ever, but still refusing to give proper shot for Magellan2...Last edited by jPV on 15-Feb-2011 at 04:49 PM.
