Just do a search for "lightwave" or "Lightwave on OS4" to get some Forum links. _________________ Peter Swallow. A1XEG3-800 [IBM 750FX PowerPC], running OS4.1FE, using ac97 onboard sound.

I know of a parallel port dongle protection that comes with Amiga standalone version of Lightwave3D 3.5 or newer.
A AmigaOne or Sam or even Pegasos with OS4 won´t handlr that!!!
I´ve heard of versions (modified/cracked) of Lightwave3D where the protection is gone. Users that use Lightwave3D under OS4.1 use cracked Software !!!

On what machine do you want to use Lightwave3D under 4.1?

No, it won't. It doesn't even work on OS3.1 with a graphic board. V3.5 requires the old Amiga's custom chips. It will not draw parts of its GUI on a graphic board so you can't see what you are doing. It will also crash when rendering to a p96 screen.
Kind regards,
Dennis

Whilst I have never tried lightwave on any platform, it's worth pointing out that OS4.1 P96 has a "fake native" mode that emulates old amiga screen modes. How this effect lightwave I don't know.
The dongle thing would seem more of a problem, but the A1 has a parrallel port, so it *might* work on that. _________________ BroadBlues On Blues BroadBlues On Amiga Walker Broad |

It rendered scene files just fine under OS4 final. Not working under OS4.1?
Oh, and if you use ModePro, you can promote the little screens that are part of the GUI, if those are what you are referring to. I was also able to use ModePro promotion to pull a trick by naming each of those screens and rendering a real HAM-8 image on top of another named screen. But it is true that if you use the 1024x768 screen, although the display will show fully at 1024x768, the other tricks will not work, and the results will be as you stated.

slightly off topic - I can tell you from personal experience I have run LW 4.0 on my A4000 OS3.9 w/Retina Z3 board. It took some time but I was able to promote all screens to the Retina board by using BOTH ModePro and NewMode simultaneously. Once configured it worked perfectly!
I'm not currently with the system or I would post the specifics, if anyone is interested, but it can be done. _________________ Please visit AmigaSource.com!!! Since 2001... I'm using Lightwave on OS4.1 without problems. You need to enable the "Planar screens on RTG" option in GUI Prefs which means the OS will "emulate" classic planar screens on gfx cards, because Lightwave's rendering preview assumes a planar (non-RTG) screen and renders into it directly. Lightwave is not RTG-aware, e.g. it doesn't have proper support for P96/CGX, but luckily OS4 has this planar screen emulation capability and you can use Lightwave just fine. I've been using it all weekend on my Peg2/OS4.1 to model a house that we're about to build. Last edited by COBRA on 14-Jul-2009 at 06:44 AM. Last edited by COBRA on 14-Jul-2009 at 06:42 AM. How did you get it working? The Lightwave3D standalone Version 3.5 4.0 amd 5.0 come with hardware protection (parallel dongle)!
These days PC/MAC Lightwave3D come with hardware protection via (USB dongle) too
Are you using illegal copy?
