@joeled

It's currently in my possession since jahc got bored. I'll try to make some small fixes for memory leaks and some stuff, but no major development. Jahc might take back over development at some point.

@joeled

Webcam support will only happen when a universal USB Video Driver is written for OS4.x then software like SabreMSN can exploit such a thing.

Extremely, unfortunately.

What might be somewhat doable (depending on available docs and codecs) could be to be able to display someone else's webcam, but transmitting webcam from the Amiga is not something we should hold our breath for. However, considering how difficult it was to get file transfer support, just receiving the webcam stream might be very difficult, even if decoding would be simple once we get hold of the stream.

@joeled

I don't think it is difficult just don't think it is a priority for anyone to develop but I would sure find it a delight to have as part of the OS.

I know someone flirted with developing a utility that supported a specific webcam brand, but what we need is a driver system something like what MacOSX uses which is a USB VIDEO CLASS which most vendors of web cams support like logitec for example.

Posted elsewhere, but this is a more appropriate thread.

What has happened to the SabreMSN site?

Another thread where "see #2" may be appropriate.

I have got a web cam working with Sonix (it's a Macally IceCam) just wondered would it be possible to use Sonix driver within SabeMSN?

I thought if Sonix was open source they could implement the driver as that works on OS4.1.5 surely?

Aw I didn't realise Jahc had quit Amiga development, that is a shame as he was a very talented coder.

Any news on him passing on Wookiechat development? It's by far the best Amiga IRC client, then again it is fairly fully-featured, but be nice if someone was looking after it, just in case Os updates break it or something.

@Crumb

exactly. we can not even plan of having forks due to limited attention and developer staff. its a luck if even someone picks up. i have to say we are unfortunatelly close to the edge, where sorta communism has to take over. all stuff available should get open sourced, im sorry, there is no choice.

You may cruise about http://amigarevolution.com/ and find things,
the dedicated part is gone it seems.

oh, and ps. Nerp hosts amigarevolution.com and the first address works without the account suspended part.

@Deniil715

jahc came round my place a while back and looked again at MSM, got quite enthusiastic. When he gets into the house he has bought, any time now, he will come and collect a machine from the club, for a month he says to taste amiga stuff again. He is still hoping that rumoured notebook will turn up some time soon.

For once, I agree (mostly) with one of your posts. Congrats.

OSS (specifically GPL) is a natural alternative for what's usually released as public domain/freeware. If someone has no intention of making any money out of the work, then there surely is little harm. And if it is GPL and then improved by someone else then the changes must also be released. (I would never use a BSD-style licence because the code can be closed off.)

This is exactly what I will do to my old (and to be honest, somewhat naff) OS3 software when I port it to OS4. If I do this it has a hope of being taken over by someone else if I ever got fedup with it.

Now I just have to hope someone's ported git, since every other source code management system sucks.

Lawrence
