| Just wish they'd announce the hardware when it is ready to sell.
Honestly, I am so tired of too early hardware announcements in the "Amigaworld".
If it's 300 Euros, I will buy one just for ####s and giggles.
And, I hope it does have at least some kind of amigaish design, and does not just look like a run-of-the-mill-el-cheapo-laptop.
Well, a man can dream..

I think this is the most important thing to remember, if it is available for $300-$500 a lot of people with just a slight interest in AmigaOS may buy one just for "####s and giggles"
For me, 400mhz will be fine to get a chance to use AmigaOS, I just want to be able to play a bit with it and do basic web browsing as I have a pretty powerful desktop running windows and OSX for anything that requires some power behind it.
I could never justify buying any of the other compatible hardware since it would sit on a desk and I would never use it but for the preposed price it can replace my Acer Aspire One (that my dog killed with tea last week) as my main web browsing machine and also be a bit of a toy.
I used a 1997 Powerbook 3400c (240mhz 603e, 80mb) for a while just for the fun of it, it couldn't manage web browsing due MacOS 8 short comings it was way too slow but i used it as a wordprocessor, photoshop machine and to play simcity 2000 and it did just as well as my modern desktops. I also used a clamshell G3 ibook with a 266mhz G3 for a while about 4 years ago, ran both OSX 10.4 and OS9.22 but had enough power for my every day needs, only the 800x600 screen let it down and web browsing under OS9 was slow. I still have them both now so may dig them out again for a bit of a play.
Power isn't everything as long as you accept the limitations
WIFI is essential though, nobody is going to buy a netbook without wifi even if they have to downgrade the security on their hub to get it to work at first. It was lack of wifi that kept me from running Aros, OSX and Haiku on my Acer aspire one (I know they all support wifi in some way but they didn't support my card).

| eliyaho was kind enough to give a running play-by-play summation via IRC of Sollie's remarks from AmiWest last night. I've copied the lines about the netbook and have them on my AOS web pages. _________________

Makes me think of the Lotus 7: Brute power? No! High top speed? No! Loads of fun? YES!!
So maybe they should call it the Amiga 7 _________________ Back home... |

| I'm Excited, Amazed, Worried and Annoyed all at the same time!
Excited that finally there will be a low price entry to Amiga users and laptop that people have been asking for awhile.
Amazed that this has been done, achieved and at the price for such a small market
Worried that this will hurt X1000 and Sam460 sales and take the lime light and developers away from the X1000 project.
Annoyed that they began work on this when work on X1000 is not complete yet and that Hyperion / A-eon not learned, Don't release Due Dates the amount of troll and rubbish I've seen because the X1000 did not meet its Summer 2010 release should of been a lesson to just say “when its done”!!
But all in the all EXCELLENT work, I just hope you dont regret that release date and that you still put efforts behind fully supporting the X1000 and improving the OS which is what I'm more interested in. Still thinking about ordering one, seeing how much over time I can do this Christmas, Dam you Amiga! LoL _________________ AmigaNG, YouTube, LeaveReality Studio |

Its even slow just on booting. Try to run GIMP, you will see how not fast is it even on fast cpus. On the netbooks with 400mhz it will be madness slow, but with 800 it can be almost the same slow as on my peg2. |
I used amicygnix a lot with my sam460. Used gimp and xsane. And it worked very good. Very usable on the 460. _________________ I'm an antique. Don't light my fuse |

I guess it's all a matter of setting your reference. Sure, when compared to some multi-core, above GHz AMD or Intel it will be slow, but we're talking Amiga here and with software written for Amiga I guess it can't be that bad. I, for one, am excited about this and I am tempted to get me one._________________ Back home... |

Yes correct, checked the specifications, too bad they did not design it as nettbook whit a bit more ram, a lot more people here would have been more interested.

Actually Genes worked a lot on a successor to the Efika5200B which featured the 5121. Things didn't wokred out as expected and THTF took all the rest from Genesi and just put it to market. Voilá there is the Limepc sries incl. the Limebook. Mostly based on bplan/Genesis work. Kind of funny .

derived from one of those evaluation systems, performance might be equal to Sam440 price will be above 1200$ US. - Early prototypes might be shown before end of 1012. - Preorder of a "special firtst contact BETA edition" inculding AOS4.2.6 without power saving function around the end of 1013
Based on what we know now, performance will be in between of Classics and SAM 440 version, minus no 3D accel. at all (like SAM 460 integrated gfx)
No need to be evil.
Like they say, nettop exists, OS4 needs drivers and beta testing, so its viable it will be out during 2012. But since it will be "cheapest OS4 system" performance will not be a killer, more to say decent.
It can`t in any aspect compare to G4 PowerBooks with MOS, but can bring joy to OS4 users (just like G5 Macs are above PA Semi performance, so MOS could take the second crown too). Joy to every kingdom! _________________ Future Acube and MOS supporter, fi di good, nothing fi di unprofessionals. Learn it harder way! |

The netbook doesn't worry me. Not at $300 and not even with a considerably lower price tag. Because slight difference in some other sales figures doesn't matter as much as the big picture, with a larger user base. Probably people who don't have to save for half a year for a new computer will be less likely to grow tired, so to speak. And they surely would know the other options are more powerful.

| if the cpu is the MPC5121e then it has a built in PowerVR MBX Lite with 2D+3D acceleration. pretty similar to the graphics chipset used in the first iPhone and a lot of android phones, also the CPU is 400mhz so about the same speed as an iphones ARM CPU.
Smartphones are very capable machines so I'll be happy with those specs in a netbook.

If it is the LimePC then it's advertised using Android so I guess that would still be a possibility to use. Then Angry-Birds should be a possibility as well _________________ Back home... |

Well that one would require Wi Fi driver for sure, if its OS 4.1u5 or OS 4.2 which is a good news for all (so far only one card which was hard to find was supported)_________________ Future Acube and MOS supporter, fi di good, nothing fi di unprofessionals. Learn it harder way! |

Somehow I missed that it could run android, if the AmigaOS netbook can also run android then that's a huge bonus for those taking a risk on AmigaOS giving them something they can be sure about if AmigaOS doesn't work out for them._________________

Be careful, I assumed what others are speculating that it is in essence the LimePC Z9. According to the LimePC website (you'll be needing a modern browser to get to the specs) the Z9 in standard configuration uses Android 1.5 as OS. Now, I'm aware that 1.5 is rather old-ish but still. _________________ Back home... |

I'm being as careful as I can, thats why i say if a lot. Also I was the first to speculate about that here while Mr Sollie was still speaking about it last night
It's hard to find out much about the status of android on PPC and since it's not a huge market there may not have been a lot of development so 1.5 could currently be the best available.
It's open source so who knows what can happen, it may not take a skilled person or two a lot to get later versions running but then again, it could be too much work for very little gain.
At least a version of linux shouldn't be too much to expect, I could probably create a custom distro for the limited specs myself as long as the hardware is supported although i didn't have much luck getting an X display on my powerbook 3400c
I just compile and configure, i'm not a coder
Edit: Found a build of Android 2.0 for an amcc 460ex eval board so there has been some progress since 1.5 Last edited by TheMaskedMuchacho on 23-Oct-2011 at 08:31 PM. Last edited by TheMaskedMuchacho on 23-Oct-2011 at 08:26 PM.
