| Today's News says that software made the onboard A1 sound chip work. I bought an SBLive with my AmigaOne (3 years ago? already?!).
Can I remove that SBLive?
If yes, does anyone know what configuration changes I should also make?
Oh, and while I'm posting "hear", do we yet have information for beginners (me) about sound software/hardware possibilities? I read the posts associated with sound but the it seems that always some part of the talk has unspoken context that makes it too hard to trouble shoot one's own system (mine).

Yes if you have the chip. Install this driver as AHI specifies. And then change setting in AHI Prefs and Mixer and off you go.

I would first try the onboard via686b AHI driver before taking it out. Chances are that you don't have the chip, since they took it off after the first batch(es).

The AHI user archive contains information / documentation on AHI itself. It doesn't come with OS4 drivers though, but the documentation still applies. When you have questions about supported audio hardware on the A1, installation issues or other problems, I think it's best just to ask it here._________________ Audio Evolution http://www.audio-evolution.com |

Not until the changes are put in u-boot, which AFAIK isn't happening any time soon. _________________ Audio Evolution http://www.audio-evolution.com |

ok, i`ll stick with my Soundblaster live for the time being. Nice to have the option of onboard audio in future though.
Cheers

I'm using the onboard AC'97 here*, it seems to me to be as good** as the SBLive was, which I was using until the drivers were published
*OS4 only: I dont use sound on Linux, never got it satisfactorily configured ! **at least on my stereo only speakers. _________________
