| Hyperion were contacted by Amiga Inc. about creating of AmigaOS 5 kernel. Nothing is official yet but Hyperion would like to continue work on AmigaOS4 and future versions. |

This is exactly what have been said:
Quote:
{EntilZha} About OS5: No, I don't know anything. We have been contacted by Amiga some two months ago. They asked us if we would be willing to write the OS5 kernel for them... {Trez} Were you willing to write the kernel? {Rogue} Trez: That hasn't been decided yet. There where just informal talks, and no concrete offer. {EntilZha} We would be willing, but of course, we're currently contractually bound to Hyperion and OS4 work |
So I assume you were right. Sorry for that.Last edited by yak on 16-Sep-2006 at 06:40 PM. Last edited by yak on 16-Sep-2006 at 06:40 PM.

Nice!
Even more so if they'd be twice the size, but nice never the less.
Thanks. |

| Amiga Inc contact the friedens about creating OS5 kernel? Is this a contradiction? OS5 developement started on 2004 and the OS have not yet a kernel? And how they achieves astonishing result with OS5 without a kernel?
I don't understand this point.

Not really news, but we did show off the work in progress skinable interface system for TuneNet, along with a skin put together especially for the event. I've left a snapshot of it on the TuneNet webpage (1st news item).
Cheers, Bean.

| It was a great show, with some interesting people to talk to. Dennis is obviously a genius, the minigig was superb. I would love to have one sat under my TV for a quick game of Battle Squadron
Jens seemed to be just as much of a genius, and he sold me a Keyrah, someting I had never heard of before. It turns old commodore machines in to USB keyboards.... How cool is that? Type your word docs on a C64 (or A600/1200) keyboard
Thanks to all the organisers, I had a great day and look forward to the next one.

| Yes, an impressive show, even if Murphy didn't want me to get there.
First time I've seen a A4000 and actual AmigaOnes! First time in years I've been able to talk about Amigas without getting puzzled looks or mocked, and listen to other people talking about them!
Great to see some of the people behind all the nicknames and avatars, even if I didn't get to meet Talula. _________________ SEX SUX

Basically, the AmigaAnything, I have seen, (a year old) rests on the Tao kernel. It allows for a great deal of development on other aspects of the OS. I would love the Freidans to come behind this project - but all they have said is that the waters have been tested.
The OS4 project is, I believe, compatible to having OS5, the former does not simply need to disappear when the latter comes out, a PPC OS has a long run yet ahead of it yet.
The benefit, if the Friedans accept some future offer, is that it keeps both of them in full time Amiga related work after the OS4 launch. Hopefully working on OS5 and maintaining OS4 will have benefits showing themselves in bothg OSes. Hopefully, and there need not be a conflict of interests, they may be able to be contracted to both companies in some capacity (that will be ideal).
We need as a community, their knowledge and skills as a keystone for ongoing OS development. After the launch their work load is bound to decrease dramatically, and dealing with as yet unbrevealed bugs and minor fixes, is not exactly going to keep these two in top form.
Basically the fact that Amiga Inc has approached them at all considering the legal problems going on - is a great indication for the future in my book at any rate.
I noted also that the Peg issue was not dismissed out of hand, which is again a good sign. Problems remain (I can suggest where some of them might be), but there is a little hope at the end of tunnel, the way I read their short reply. It would be good in the end if Peg owners did have the opportunity to have OS4, I doubt the sales figures would recover the costs of porting, but maybe the changes needed, if any, might not be so big.
My view would be that the Peg issue is probably best dealt with after the launch and the new hardware is out and established, a kindness port might then not be out of the question, but an official recognition of the Peg board as an Amiga badge may be too much to hope for.
Consider the effect of a PS3 port, Sony would not care for an Amiga badge on their hardware. If that comes off, an OS4 port to the PS3, then perhaps a Peg port might also be slipped in as badging may not be such a sticking point by then.
