A lot of people seem to be asking questions about what hardware is being made for OS4 right now. I've compiled a very rough guide to help answer questions..

The following OS4 Hardware Projects are known about. I dont know if any of these have an OS4 license yet though.

#1:
Maker: Troika
Board: Amy05/Amy0x/Prometheus
Website: www.troikang.com

The *Amy 05 is a flex ATX form factor board that moves away from legacy I/O making a complete move to USB. Comparison chart.

- Processor: IBM PPC 750GL 800Mhz. processor with Active (fan) cooling. Soldered directly to motherboard.
- Northbridge: Tundra Semiconductor TSI107 Northbridge device. This provides access to SDRAM memory and the PCI bus amongst other things.
- Southbridge: AMD Geode cs5536 Companion device.
- Ethernet: RTL8110 Gb/100/10 Ethernet controller.
- USB 2.0: 5 x High Speed USB 2.0 ports: 3 rear connectors, 2 front connectors.
- ATA 100/133: Sil0680 ATA133 controller. Supports 2 channels (4 devices). Full ATA 100/133 transfer rates, DMA bus mastering and RAID (Raid is dependent on OS drivers).
- Audio: "Kryptos" sound system with AD1888 SoundMax chipset and with audio headers.
- PCI slot: 1 x 66 Mhz, 3.3V 32bit. for Graphics & 1 x 33 Mhz, 32bit.
- SDRAM: 2 x DIMM memory slots (Regular,Unbuffered, Off the shelf PC100/133 SDRAM. Max of 1GB)

Last word from the Amiwest computer show was that they were aiming for a 2Q 2007 release. Some technically minded people doubt this board will ever run, judging from its prototype pictures. (i.e. component placing, and 90 degree mobo traces).

#2:
Maker: Troika
Board: Panda

Information from: http://www.ppcnux.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=6413#troika

The design by Beijing UD Technology Co., Ltd. (UDTech) is an evaluation board similar to the MAI Teron that started a second life under Eyetech as the "AmigaOne" commercial product. This board has been licensed by Troika and is being modified slightly. Details of what actual changes are being made are not yet available.

The features of the UDTech board are:
- MPC7448 with up to 1.7 GHz
- Tundra Tsi109 Northbridge
- DDR2 DIMM slot
- 2x Gigabit Ethernet
- 2x SATA and 1 PATA connector
- 4x USB2.0 ports
- 1x PCI-66 and 1x PCI-33 slots
- 2x MiniPCI slots, e.g. for WLAN or Tuner cards
- Smartcard slot
- Stereo or S/PDIF Audio In and 5.1 or S/PDIF Audio Out
- Serial port
- Infrared interface
- 16 MB NOR Flash
- ATX power connector

These boards have been sent to Hyperion already for OS4 porting and driver writing.

#3:
Maker: (dont know, a few Italian companys!)
Board: Samantha/Sam440
Website: http://www.sam440.com/

SAM440EP is the first modular motherboard produced by us. Sam's CORE is the PowerPC 440, a System On Chip (SoC) produced by AMCC under license from IBM.

One of the main features of the PowerPC 440EP is the presence, together with the CPU, of a number of integrated peripherals. This allow us to build a complete system with a huge savings of both development and debug time, with less components and space used on the PCB. This also results in a significant cost reduction for the customer.

As a consequence the northbridge/southbridge combination (like the ArticiaS/VIA686B) is not present on the board. Part of their functionality is built into the CPU and the balance is provided by other components and devices.

For the specific model of CPU mounted on SAM, the 440EP, we have the following integrated peripherals:

- DDR memory controller
- PCI controller
- Flash memory devices controller
- USB 1.1 host and USB 2.0 device controller
- 2 Ethernet 10/100 ports
- Up to 4 serial ports
(note: there seems to be 4 SATA ports on the mobo, not 4 serial ports!)
- 2 I2C interfaces
- SPI interface
- 64 pins for General Purpose I/O

Physically the 440EP is a chip of 35mmx35mm, with a PBGA packaging with 456 pins. It is built with CMOS (0.13 um) technology, has a very low power consumption (only 3 Watts at 533Mhz) and it does not require any active cooling system

Availability: Within the first quarter of 2007

Other boards:

- Amiga Inc were going to show a new highend prototype at Amiwest, but was unable to make it. No details have been made available of this board yet.

- Rumour has it, the makers of the Samantha board also have a highend board called Moana in the pipeline. Virtually nothing is known about this board yet either.

Regardless of the outcome (if any), it's always useful to have a single place where all the contenders are listed and documented.

Good idea with this list !

IMO This Thread should be made "sticky" in the News section... And maybe also lock to avoid some kind of posts...

None of them have an OS4 license.

Also, here are two more hardware projects that is suitable for OS4:

#6:
Maker: Genesi/b-plan
Board: Efika 5200B
Website: http://www.pegasosppc.com/efika.php

The Efika is a very small motherboard with somewhat limited specs and expandability. However, its Bill of Materials is very low, hence it can be manufactured *very* cheap and sold at an attractive price if some volume can be reached. It runs passively cooled, and consumes only a few Watts. It could easily be used as a building block for various embedded devices as it is, including portable and battery powered ones. It has a PCI-slot that can be turned into an AGP slot (1x speed) by the use of an 90° AGP riser slot. One cool case-option for this computer would be to fit a complete Efika system, including the motherboard, a 2.5" harddrive and a low profile graphics card, in a box with a size and shape of a regular 5.25" CD-ROM and put it (or several!) in a regular tower case. Or why not in a case like this?

The Efika board has the following specifications:

* Freescale MPC5200B PowerPC SoC up to 400MHz
* 118mm x 153mm x 38mm
* 128MB 266MHz DDR RAM
* 44-pin IDE connector
* 10/100Mbit/s Ethernet
* 2x USB ports
* 1x RS232 Serial port
* Stereo Audio out, Microphone and Line-input
* 33/66MHz PCI with optional 90° AGP riser slot
* RoHS Compliant

Example product solutions include:

* Thin-Client for X or Windows Terminal Server (rdesktop) displays
* Home Theater satellite, to relay recorded or downloaded TV shows and movies around the home
* High power-use/performance-ratio cluster node
* Industrial control and robotics
* VOIP/Video Phone connected to a TV
* Webcam Security solution

By utilising CHRP-compliant IEEE 1275 Firmware, a variety of Operating Systems are available for the platform and in particular Genesi offers the following Power Developer Support Site. More information on Operating Systems available for the EFIKA 5200B can be found here.

This product is about to ship, and can be ordered from the Genesi online store. If you *hurry*, you may still be able to get one for free if you have an idea of a development project and submit it here.

Please note! Just like the other hardware listed above, the Efika is not yet licensed to run OS4.

#7:
Maker: Genesi/b-plan
Board: Pegasos 8641D
Website: http://www.powerdeveloper.org/8641d.php

The Pegasos 8641D is a motherboard built around the Freescale MPC8641D processor. This CPU is a dual-core CPU, with two high-performance superscalar e600 cores (similar as the 7448 CPU) running at up to 1.5 GHz. Each core has its own memory controller (DDR2 up to 600MHz), its own 1MB L2 cache, and its own Altivec engine. The CPU chip itself also incorporates dual 8-lane PCI Express ports, as well as 4 Gigabit Ethernet controllers. The CPU also comes in a single-core version.

The developer project is about to start, and the website where interested software developers can apply for a free developer board are already up and running. You can also buy one at the Genesi online store (delivery in 6-8 weeks).

Please note that the hardware in the 8641D developer program is not the "Pegasos 8641D" motherboard, but Freescale's PCEVALHPCN-8641D reference design ("Argo Navis"). The final Pegasos 8641D consumer design will be designed around this reference product (similar specs) and enhanced by the developer support and early adopter work through the Projects Program. Pegasos 8641D drawing

The specs of the "Argo Navis"/Pegasos 8641D:

MPC8641D Dual-Core Processor rev 2.0 brings:
* e600 cores with 1MB L2 cache
* 600MHz internal bus speed
* DDR2 memory controller
* 4x Gigabit Ethernet ports
* 8x and 4x PCI Express slots

ULi M1575 Southbridge brings:
* 4x Serial ATA (3.0Gbps)
* 1x Parallel ATA
* 4x USB 2.0 ports
* 2x PCI slots (5V tolerant)
* AC97 Audio
* PS/2 keyboard & mouse

Please note! Just like the other hardware listed above, the Pegasos 8641D is not yet licensed to run OS4.

WHAT is this for nonsens ?
You know wery well NO Genesis/BPlan HW will ever* become a OS4 licence !
This is a purely trolling.

*The chance is better to win in jackpot and buy Amiga.Inc ...

The above listed HW "HAVE" a chance .. but this is not going for YOU listed
nonsens ...

Sony Playstation 3 By SCEI.

Linux is already prepared for it. Whether Sony will share documentation is doubtfull, but it here unlike most other mentioned products!

Hi,

@Troels

heck .. yes .. even the PS3 have a bigger chance to become a OS4 plattform
than ANY genesis/BPlan product - PERIOD!

And this is not my decision. - But the reality

Genesi/bplan have no intention of getting os4 running on their hardware. You know this. You dont like it, and neither do I. It's just the way things are. I'd really appreciate it if you could please remove your post from this thread. Genesi hardware doesnt belong in this thread.

You're wrong

Now, we don't know if BBRV will get a license or not, but untill either AInc or Genesi gives an official statement that OS4 on Genesi/BPlan hardware will never happen, they are in the same boat as SAM, Troika, ACK and Sony is atm.
None of the above has made an official statement "We have a license to run OS4 on our hardware".

Hi,

@tomazkid

yes .. this is in "Virtual" true ..
But the plan to port OS4 to Peg-II or other Genesis HW
was rejected often than one time from AInc ..
Even the private and full financial stable try from Acill_MOS
was rejected ..
And this to a time NO other Available PPC HW was in sight ...
And now is more than one OS4 like HW in the race ..
One sample board was shown in various version [sam]
The other boards was shown [Panda and Amy05]
And we know from more boards ...

Why will Ainc NOW give genesis a licence ????
I know he doing very mmh ... mystery ... busines plans ..
But this is out of any [even Ainc] Logic ...

It is not zero chance .. but nearly ..

And .. i am not against efikea or peg-III or wahtever ...
[i will buy first a non genesis product .. but fit a genesis product
my needing .. and is cheeper than the other .. why not .. BUT ->]

The problem is the promotion of this boards as potential OS4 HW ..
and this potential i cant see .. and i think many other member too .. this is the point!

*fix unclear statement

What would be best, in MY opinion, for ALL concerned... is to keep an open mind. (That parachute reference, right?)

Until it's in a contract or you are holding it in your hands it's just talk. Talk is cheap.

So, how about we all explore ALL possibilities? It can't cost too much.... right?

Knowledge is power.
