| I just bought a second hand A1se - it came without an OS4 cd - how do I get OS4? Do I have to buy it seperately or can I just download it from Hyperion as an A1 owner?
Thanks folks

Why didn't you get a cd?
Without a cd, what you need to do is to contact Hyperion by email for more help, since the download site needs a registration. _________________ Site admins are people too..pooff! |

The motherboard was for sale at a good price, but didn't include the CD - I'm expecting delivery in the next few days.
Thanks for the info, once I get the motherboard through I'll contact Hyperion for help.
IIRC OS4 wasn't released until after the A1s had been sold, so how did you get your first OS4 cd? _________________ Troll - n., A disenfranchised former potential customer who remains interested enough to stay informed and express critical opinions. opp., the vast majority who voted silently with their feet. |

I got my cd from my dealer, who sent the cd to all who had bought an A1 from him. Hyperion propably wants to know the details of your A1SE, like serialnumber etc. Last edited by tomazkid on 20-Mar-2007 at 01:29 AM.

The CD should be supplied with the motherboard as it is effectively a pre-release system. I recommend you contact the seller and request the CD. The seller should also inform Hyperion that he/she has sold the motherboard to you and request a "transfer" of the license to you. Once your are registered with Hyperion you will be able to download OS4.0 Final from their support website.
I have been through this process in the past and can confirm it works OK.
Good luck

Did your board have the "AmigaOne from Eyetech" sticker with the serial number. |

This is just speculation. I am not sure if Hyperion have any way to tell the OS4 CD serial number that was meant for your A1-SE by knowing your A1 board serial number. Because the CD and the board were distributed by two different companies.
I guess what they would need is the OS4 pre-release CD serial number. Then, they can re-assign the registration of that particular CD to the new user. The old user will not have access to the download area anymore. This is just fair because the OS4 copy can only be used on one machine, legally.
So, to me, it does not make sence to get an A1 without an OS4 CD, unless one just wants to use Linux.

It may be a long shot. AmigaKit recently bought the Eyetech domain name and inventory and that would mean that Matthew is able to get hold of Alan Redhouse. Maybe Matthew can put you in touch with Alan, who should be able to confirm to Hyperion that your serial is genuine.
Other than that I don't know what to suggest. |

That wouldn't help him much since he finally gave up on it and sold his A1SE (see his message above). |

i sent to hyperion both A1 serial number and OS4 CD serial number (the CD was supplied with my A1SE), all i wanted is to transfer the licence from the previous owner to myself.
anyway that was 1 year ago, i don't have an AOne anymore.

| I still have a copy of OS4.0 sitting here gathering dust. Long story short our in house A1-XE was sent back to Eyetech under warranty and via instruction of Alan Redhouse. Eyetech never honored the warranty and ceased to reply to many many emails. I dare say that board is long gone. Not too sure if the OS4 license is transferable though but as it stands its useless to me.

Crikey. That's two AmigaOne owners in Sheffield (that I know of). |

Let me know if you succeed in getting anything. I've been nagging on and off for over two years to get a CD or at least a reg code for my first-hand A1XE with no success. _________________ All glory to the Hypnotoad! |

Oh boy, I wonder which stories will surface in the future that we don't know of yet.
How can anyone safely recommend OS4 to anyone (provided there is hw at some point) with customer "support" like this? It's not even just "bad support", but in fact defrauding customers. If it wasn't the Amiga-"business", people would usually place the matter in the hands of an attorney. But of course we are so forgiving... And these are not the only examples since I have read similar stories on the OS4 yahoo group. |

I'm traveling at the moment and don't have access to all my information on the process I used. Unfortunately I won't be home until the end of April. However, I can confirm I transferred the license for two previously owned A1 systems. It was a 2 stage process and required the seller to send a confirmation e-mail as well. If no one else can advise the correct procedure/contacts before I get home I will look through my records and post here.

Easy. Find somebody with OS4 and no hardware, in other words, A1 is kaputt, and offer to buy it.
Or get the CD or CD holder from the original owner. Even if the CD is broken in half you can get the serial number from it and download it from hyperion.
