| I've just noticed there are some LimeBook PPC laptops in the classifieds! To my knowledge these were never officially released in the UK and are probably a dying breed (although correct me if I'm wrong)! However, an AOS4.x laptop is a dream for many of us! Is it possible for Hyperion to port AOS to the Limebook? _________________ "Art challenges technology. Technology inspires the art." John Lasseter, Co-Founder of Pixar Animation Studios |

Yeah, it would definitely be nice to have a netbook option! The MorphZone guys have already discussed this netbook at length when it was shown at the CES 2009;

Where can they be bought? I haven't been able to find any retailer in my country and the Lime-website also doesn't list any. _________________ This signature is in the middle of a much needed facelift! |

| IMHO: supporting LimeBook would be total waste of time, unless Lime people do the drivers & HAL. Better build AOS4box to be run on OSX/MOS on old Powerbooks. _________________ - KimmoK // For freedom, for honor, for AMIGA // // Thing that I should find more time for: CC64 - 64bit Community Computer? |

Are there no other retailers, e.g. in Europe? Shipping costs from the US are much too high._________________ This signature is in the middle of a much needed facelift! |

Well, the good thing about SOCs are the inherent simplicity of porting to several boards using the same chip.
I ported Linux AND UBoot to my 5121e board in less than a week, and I'm certainly no expert.
Freescale provides an easy to use spreadsheet with DDR/DDR2 configuration data, so not even that part was difficult.
It's a very good thing when you've done the whole schematic, layout AND porting yourself and the board boots up from DDR2 on first attempt _________________ This weeks pet peeve: Using "voltage" instead of "potential", which leads to inventing new words like "amperage" instead of "current" (I, measured in A) or possible "charge" (amperehours, Ah or Coulomb, C). Sometimes I don't even know what people mean. |

IMR the SoC used in the Limebook has a cache coherency problem, that doesn't means an OS could not be ported, it just means another issue for an port together with reduced performance.
---
Beside the question if an OS could be ported, you should ask Hyperion if they want to do the port. I have my doubts Hyperion want to port AOS4 (unless they are paid for) and I have my doubts the manufacturer of the Limebook will pay the port.
But just ask Hyperion ... maybe you can set up a Bounty to pay the port.

Just an FYI that is the same gentleman as who is advertising in the classifieds here.
When he first put them up for sale last year he made a number of news sites. Here is an example:
http://www.engadget.com/2009/04/07/freescale-powered-limebook-hits-ebay-for-astronomical-price/
It looks like he has dropped his price on them considerably, which is good IMHO.
meet.mrnrg (the seller) was an very early and enthusiastic adopter of SAM, before AOS 4.x was officially announced for it. I got the impression he got into this business in hopes that if enough people took interest he could help see LimeBook be supported also. I'm guessing his original price point was due to buying in small volume, but thats just a guess.
I would suggest PMing him to ask where he is at with Hyperion on any porting. I know he planned to inquire at some point.
Here is his user id:

Unless something has changed since last year I think he is the only retailer outside of Asia._________________ Pegasos2 G3 running AOS 4.1 and MorphOS 2.0 Amikit user, tinkering with Icaros VM (AROS) EFIKA owner Amiga 1200 |

I'm not too sure that the LimeBook is still in production. Have you confirmed it with the OEM?

Then it's not worth porting to it._________________ This signature is in the middle of a much needed facelift! |

Hi, best thing here, is to have or prepare a list of questions. I / My Partners / Supplier, can then answer these questions to the best of our ability.
All other questions can be taken over the phone, and or eBay Message system.
Thanks & Regards,

1. Have you contacted Hyperion to discuss what their business model is for a port of OS4?
2. Have you learned what they require you to do as part of that effort?_________________ All glory to the Hypnotoad! |
