A1XE memory

As my A1XE only has 256MB of RAM I figured it would be a good idea to upgrade it. I googled for AmigaOne memory and found this site. 70USD for a 1GB module does seem like a good deal with the current exchange rate. The obvious question is, what are the chances of an "off-the-shelf" memory module actually working in the A1XE?

@AmiDog

I am actually using a 512 MB RAM (1 slot used) and it works. But, I know that 2 slots won't work so good but i'm not sure if 1GB is supported. Don't foget that the A1 (XE) is the first (after SE) Amiga NG and the motherboard had bugs.

Of course it's a good deal but be careful. Maybe you can ask if you can send it back when doesn't work.

@AmiDog

I have ordered A1 memory from MemoryX. Make sure, absolutely sure, positively sure, that they do not send you memory for a Teron board, which takes unregistered modules. I had to send a memory module back twice to get the actual registered A1XE RAM. The module I have from them does work. You just have to make sure they send you the right one.

@PhantomInterrogative

I have actually tested a few unregistered 256MB modules in my A1-XE and they worked fine if alone. Not all worked of course, but most of the ones I had worked. Since I couldn't use them in pairs it was of no use of course. Now using a single 512MB module.

@Deniil715

I have been thinking of buying a memory upgrade for my A1XE, too, but I'm somewhat scared of the "peculiarities" of A1 SIMMs...

I have a 512MB chip that works and would like to buy another. Heard it needed to be an exact copy of the existing one. Any report if this is actually true?

Another option would be to get a bigger chip and discard the one I have, which seems unnecessary. Can I put a 1GB or 2GB or is there a limit?

Thanks.

Intuitionbase.com states that AmigaONE XE can take 2GB memory modules.

Most unbuffered Ram will work fine if not used in pairs. I have a pair of Micron/Crucial 512MB buffered Dimms.

@damned

Thx alot, did search ebay just now for INFINEON HYS72V128320GR-75C2
And I found an auction with 5 min left with 8 x 1 gb sd ram of just those types.

Paid only 25$ :

3 x INFINEON HYS72V128320GR-7.5-C2
5 x INFINEON HYS72V128320GR-7.5-D

Now I have memory for both my A1 and Fantom X synth

From their site:
Quote:
AmigaOne XE Memory
Maximum Memory 2GB
Memory Slots 2 (2 banks of 1)
non-removable base memory 0MB
Machine name: AmigaOne XE
CPU options: AmigaOne XE
Chipset: Mobile Intel 915GM
HD Bus: ATA
Front Side Bus options:
Memory Speed options: Supports PC-133 Reg. ECC Memory
Special notes: Support upto 2GB with 2 memory Slot

Uhm, what?! Mobile Intel 915GM chipset?! I question their credibility.

I want to upgrade from my 256MB as well though. :/

@AmiDog

I have two 1 GB modules I bought as pulls from an eBay auction about a year or more back. They have worked as a pair to give me 2 GB without a hitch. I'm about due for a good internal dusting of my XE. I'll write down the model info if/when I get that job done.

Hi,
my personal experience about A1 RAm was that was better to buy it from Amiga resellers since AmigaOnes have really bad behaviour with RAMs...
Better to spend something much but to be sure that works imho...

However you really need a memory upgrade...

PS Have you droped miga soft development or are too busy to do anythimng like many other guys around?

Why? I can run Linux with 2 GB of memory without any problem.

Old kernel perhaps?
(The one with 764 mb limit or around that figure that was the limit back in the early days.)

Regarding max memory.
2 Gb is the XE limit, the big problem is to find two 1 Gb dimms that works together.

I just got an ebay auction for the Infineon 1GB modules mentioned here, 9 of them for $25. Hopefully one of them works. Heck, it'd be nice to have a spare. And if by some weird act of god they can work as a pair I'll take that too. If it's a pile of trash, well, at least it wasn't an expensive pile of trash. I don'
t expect to be able to use a pair though. The matched 256MB modules I tried together only caused me grief in my board. :(

The problem is that I haven't been able to find any Amiga dealer which has any A1 memory available for sale...

All the 2.6.x Linux kernels should work well with more that 768MB RAM. If not, then I would really like to know, what's going wrong with Linux on your machine.

In case anyone else needs AmigaOne XE RAM, I've got used ones available here:

http://www.hostcove.com

These are Kingston and have all been tested in the configurations listed.
The price includes shipping costs, and if you are outside of US and Canada, just select the Canada option and I'll ship them at the same price.
