@fastbit66

IF they complete it, it would be awesome.
And we'd have our first T2080 based system (with an e6500 core, dual threads!).

If it does get released which looking at the site seems like end of 2016. Then 2 years for hyperion to port OS4.1 to it. Sorry for dig but im loosing all hope in Amiga OS4 making any kind of good progress any time soon. Trevor has done a great job in what he has achived but since the launch of the X1000 there has been very little progress on OS4 its self.

OR you could send samples to the MorphOS development team and get a functional OS in a shorter time frame.

After all, their port to the X5000 actually works, and the OS4 port still requires work.

@iggy

I didn't know MorphOS for the X5000 had already been released. They really should of made an announcement.

@CarasGhant

Not released yet, but it was demonstrated at the Neuss show in Germany not long ago, while demo's of AmigaOS4.1FE appear to only have been "hands-off" displays of some demos running. Everyone at the Neuss show could try out MorphOS on the X5000 and see how stable it ran.

@BoingBear

If the OS4 demo wasn't hands on then how do you know its less far along? Its just a load of speculation from MorphOS trolls. Unless you are a beta tester you don't know.

Because Trevor admitted that much at Neuss.

@CarasGhant

1+

AmigaOS makes more use of the hardware anyway, so that isn't surprising.

if wikipedia is still right MorphOS can't even use more than 1.5 GB ram with no virtual memory,
less support for Pcie Radeon cards
and while this is also 'behind the curtains' there is also attemps going on at multicore support and gallium3d.

So if the MorphOS port finishes earlier then.. whoop-de-doo

Cheap cannon fodder

I bet I'm now considered evil for standing up for OS4.

Hey, another thread derailed, time to log out.

Nope. there isn't a point of releasing a port for a board that isn't available yet, A-eon won't sell X5000s until OS4 is ready (although I suspect they have stock), and further as the X5000 release of MorphOS will be 3.10 the developers have already said that they will not release it until it works on all supported machines.

But when the X5000 was recently shown with both OS running on separate machines, guess which one wasn't limited to running demos and could actually be used?

From public statements, I think Trevor would have liked to have met his announced target date, the hardware appears ready...

Nope, and I have actually congratulated the author of the OS4 Radeon HD drivers for his nice work.

And I have also pointed out that memory above 2GB can be addressed (btw - the limit is 2gb, the OS uses the top 512MB).

Gallum3D? Don't want it, on the cards we do have 2D and 3D support for our work is native.
Good luck on the multicore kernel, the Friedens don't seem too enthusiastic on that one.

And not only did our developers get done first, but our 'behind the curtains' work includes an entirely new, enhanced version for X64.

'Cheap cannon fodder'?

Hey, we aren't taking shots at anyone (even though you appear to 'think' you are).

I'm just making the point that the OS4 software developers are holding up the release of the X5000.

what ever would we do without you guys trying to make this look like a competition?

Ohhh... At least there are very fresh news on the ppc laptop from october 25, 2015. The last posts were from may 2015.

Things are evolving, and that is good news.

@Raffaele

That's debatable. They didn't succeed with their plan so they are going for a crowdfunding. Nothing reassuring at all.

Yes, and from early on in that, more than one person from the overall Amiga community are part of the discussions in that PPC notebook group.
