my 0.2 cent bets:

a) it's a fake
b) it's some small company pretending to be big (incomplete web pages, tsk tsk)
c) merlancia #2
d) Iwin #2 (#3 ?)

UPDATE: I did not read the web site carefully enough... those set top boxes are not AmigaOS based as I first thought.

So it's
e) it's a Amiga interested company, producing/selling their own STB

I actually think this might be legit (but I'll probably be proved wrong within two weeks and then laughed at for a year afterwards)

Firstly, it is a well-known fact that Eyetech needed a large order for their MicroA1 boards before they were willing to manufacture them.

The page says:
Quote:
UltraSpec already distributes several Amiga-related products in the USA.

This appears to check out - the Pegasos is listed on UltraSpec's website, which could be classed as "Amiga-related".

Computer City is listed as a dealer, and they at least sell UltraSpec cables. Semi-Werbung are also listed, and they sell Amiga products too.

MontaVista Linux I'd never heard of, but PPC is listed as a platform on their website, so it isn't a ridiculous notion to suggest that it is running on the AmigaOne (or this A700 apparently AmigaOne-based STB)

MontaVista seems to be squarely aimed at the STB/embedded systems market, and Amiga is even listed as a "media players" partner on their website. We all know the sort of business Garry Hare has previously been involved in, and the sort of thing he was planning on using AmigaOS for.

There are even three different office addresses on the AHT website, so perhaps somebody should go and knock on the door and check they exist

Chris

This is interesting. Has anyone emailed them for clarification. Now that the community has a whiff that something is going on, it wouldnt surprise me if we see a press release shortly.

Apparently MontaVista runs on the Peg, although no other threads are listed on PPCZone.org

The adresses are the ones of Ron van Herk (Computercity) and Martin Heine (Aka Senex) I believe.
Didn't think they where involved with Amiga and OS4 but only with MOS but maybe they see this thread and can tell us more

(seems to have nothing to do with the µA1 though, there are a pic of a STB board at their site, wonder if it's the mysterious Genesi stb?).

Well, if this picture is from the AHT-700 then it's clearly not an AmigaOne or Peg. But it is a PPC system board, and I'm sure it could be made to run OS4 quite easily.

I'm not sure what to make of this. If it is legit, I'll be happy regardless of what mobo is used. And while I know that UltraSpec has been a Peg reseller for some while now, it's funny that this company (AHT) lists the name "Amiga" specifically, and without concern, and also credits Hyperion with the OS4 port to PPC, and links to the OS4 page on Amiga.com. They even mention KMOS as the company owning the OS.

Let's see what becomes of this... it could be interesting, if true.

Hello everyone!

Please excuse the many questions and the confusion which arose. As you will notice, we did not yet officially announce our existence, make big promises and tell everyone and his dog we'd be the white knights who are about to lead the Amiga community into a land of milk and honey - for a reason. Since all that we are still around here with the Amiga do know very well where empty promises led us to in the past. So if we could have chosen, you even still wouldn't know about us, like in the previous monthes before.

Unfortunately, despite NDAs there were leaks. It seems too many people got involved than that it could have been kept a secret longer than the several monthes it actually has worked at least. So when a german print magazine recently found out about us and was eager to report, we had no chance anymore, could just cooperate with them to at least influence the amount of rumors they were about to publish. Also, since we originally promised to let another german print magazine report about us first, we also gave some information for the current issue of that other magazine. Thus a gap evolved from the circumstances between our sublime ambitions and today's reality.

Therefore you shouldn't mind the incomplete homepage, but don't speculate too much either, please. The last thing the Amiga community needs now are - once again - disappointed expectations. I can assure you that we will tell you about each of our products and plans once their time has come. But to do so already now would neither benefit us nor you.

Thanks for your understanding,
Martin Heine

@Senex

I was asked to get involved many months ago and although I declined due to various reasons I have been eagerly waiting for the project to become mature enough for it to be publicly announced! IMO it's a very positive sign that AmigaOS4 is planned for other platforms besides AmigaOne systems and classic Amiga hardware solutions. Best of luck to all the parties involved!

How can you expect there to be no speculation about this?

It seems to me to be more useful to KMOS, who must have set-top boxes in mind, than an A1 would be.
It has a PowerPC 405 which seems rather advanced being an all in one chip.
From the AmigaStb.com site
Quote:
The heart of the Set-Top Box consists of an STBx25xx Digital Set-Top Box Integrated Controller by IBM. This single chip design currently incorporates a PowerPC 405 processor with integrated subsystems for memory (e.g. DMA controller, IDE interface, intelligent crossbar switch), audio/video (e.g. MPEG decoding, DENC output to TV and VCR simultaneously, DVB) and peripheral interfaces (e.g. infrared receiver, smart card controller, serial interface).
